People who came from 335i/335is?

Just wondering who here is coming from a 3/435 (or who has already made the switch). I'm sure there will be quite a few. Just wondering what you all think are the pros/cons and how the power difference is.

I absolutely love my 335is and think it has incredible power already (definitely enough for anyone's daily driver). How does the power compare, and the handling?

Also, has anyone specifically come from a 2 door to the 4 door M3? That's the switch I'm making and I love the 2 door lines, but got a great deal on the 4 door, and have had difficulty with the lower practicality or 2 doors. And has anyone gone from white to grey?

Discuss!

Some pics of my current car and my build for comparison!

Are you in a stock 335is?

If so... the m3 wins in absolutely every category... The tq is a little bit higher up the rpm range in the m3 but in general it doesnt even compare.

Ya, 335is is stock. And I know the M3 is just a better car in all categories. It's basically the upgrade of everything the e92 N54 3 series is.

I'm just wondering how it was getting adjusted to the extra power and how significant it actually is. My dad has a '13 SL550 that has about the same hp as the new M, but 516lb/ft of torque! (granted the SL is a lot heavier and has horribly lazy steering feel and gearbox), but in a straight line, other than the SL being able to break traction in 3rd gear due to that torque, it doesn't feel much 'quicker' than my 3er.

I'm more concerned with what people thought of the transition, how they are liking it, and what it's like coming from a 2 door to 4 door, and from white to grey haha

Only thing I really hate about going from a Coupe to the Sedan is I gotta wipe down 2 extra doors and door sills other than that I love having the extra doors.

With the addition of the two extra doors you get those awesome rear fender flares, they look great from behind! Much nicer than our e92 N54s.

I came from a black 2012 F30 335i into what looks like the build you have specified.

I loved my 335i but I LOVE the M3 - it is awesome and completely different from the 335i. And yet, this is not even based on the power as yet. I am still in the break in period and have not had the car north of 5,000 rpm yet. However, just driving it around, you "know" it is there, waiting to be unleashed. Even a moderate driving speeds you know there is a Jekyll and Hyde going on here. Just a slight press of the accelerator and you can sense it is raring to go.

Can't wait for my 1,200 mile service. Looking forward to seeing, hearing and feeling what this will be like at 5,6 and 7,000 rpm, albeit very briefly on the roads.

No comparison.

Came from a 335i coupe and thought like you....felt it was quick and handled well.... Once I got into my new F80 I realized i was driving a go-kart!...LOL.... There is night and day difference between the 335i and the new M3. It's a massive upgrade in every single category you can list. Amazing power and handling. You will notice a big difference!

Also thought I wanted the M4 but when I drove both and really studied them I ended up going with the 4 door for multiple reasons. Each to his own though.

Agreed. With the OPs overboost it's pretty close to what I had in my 2010 335i N54 E92 w/sport pkg Dinan S3, and I have to say the comparison to the S55 is not even close. The S55 is a monster, even stock, and in sport+ mode it's scary fast.

Any particular reason? Awesome reply!

Mainly the practicality of the 4 door. It was getting annoying putting people in the back seat (both for me as a driver and them as a passenger). And I wanted a better blend of sport and luxury I guess.

I really really ... Really. Hope you guys aren't exaggerating about the s55. Maybe the honeymoon phase? Is it really that much quicker and "beast mode" than the 335??? Or maybe the novelty of a new M car still running high?

came from an N54 07 335i and the difference is MASSIVE. I liked the 335i very much.

n54 stops pulling 1k+ rpms before redline.

S55 is an amazing engine. I have 2.5k miles on the car and i am very very happy.

the handling is outstanding compared to all my previous vehicles and it is leagues above the 335i.

I am thrilled with the s55. compared to the 6.2 amg i had, I am very happy. During the initial test drives of the car, I did not think it compared at all with the AMG, but after break in and ripping it, I can report it is phenomenal.

The 6.2 was the best NA motor by far that I have ever experienced- the S55 is very very close to it in terms of responsiveness and thrill. I would still prefer the 6.2 on occasion, but fewer and fewer as I get used to the m3.

BMW did great on this engine. I can't wait to drive this car every day.
