The smell in the new car - or is this only a female thing ?
Now guys, is this only a female thing or do you also like the interior smell when you get in a brand new car ? Now, I'm not a weirdo (you can check with my husband ), but I really like the smell in a new car ! Does BMW put some addictive products in the leather/plastic to make you stay IN the car longer or what ?
On a more serious note, the first report on the driving experience is a bit delayed due to my bronchitis, antibiotics and sick leave. The smell thing just hit me today because it's the first day my sense of smell is back to normal and when I took the car to the dealership this afternoon so that they could remove the dealership name from the boot it smelled like heaven inside |

Guys love it too.
Bastet:
You're not weird. But I may be, because I find myself keeping the windows rolled up, and never transporting food, all in the name of "smell preservation."

You're not crazy -- BMW leather smells much better than Audi, Mercedes or Porsche's.....
Keep the carpets vacuumed and the panels dusted and you'll preserve the smell for a long time. Congrats |

There are few people (well none actualy) I know who don't like the smell of a new car interior. What I don't understand though is why none of the perfume makers have produced something that mimics that aroma.
I quite like Thierry Mugler's "Angel"; but ... if I met a woman who gave off the scent of a one day old M3 with extended leather (), she could have the .. personality of Hermann Goering and I would still pay her attention. |

In any car parts shop in the US, if you go to the "air refresheners" section, you can actually buy a product which is promised to make your car smell like new. Needless to say, I've never tried it.

I have a car wash membership where one of the things they do is add a scent. I always choose "new car" scent. My wife says it doesn't work, yet my car has 13K miles on it now and she says it "still smells like new", lol!

The new car smell lasted about 6 months on mine, so maybe the carwash trick actually works then!

We have the same thing here in Australia. At the car wash there is normally a choice of 3 scents; "new car", "pot pouri", and something else (wet dog?). "New Car" is way the most popular (nearly always empty), but it doesn't smell like any new car that I have experienced.

I love the new car smell, you also get it from aeroplanes, a new 737 cockpit smells lovely, until peanuts and coffee gets spilt everywhere
I read somewhere that one of the options on the new Fiat 500 is a choice of interior smells...... |

Oh yes, I have witnessed many a peanut being sprayed around the flightdeck after the packet has refused to open in a controlled manner
