Older V1 compatible with F80

Hi,

Will be picking up my M4 this spring via ED. Can't wait Trying to get prepared for it in advance as much as possible. I currently have a Valentine V1 Radar Detector mounted in my 335 that I bought in 2007. I don't think I have upgraded the software and if so, it would have been a few years ago. So with all the new nannies that come with the driver assist package that I ordered, will there be a large increase in false alarms etc.? If so, what are my options. I heard V1 wants up to $200 to upgrade older V1s. That's about half the price of a new unit. Thoughts?

Just get a Escort 9500ix. I had 3 V1s for 10+ years and they are so very annoying. You will love the peace and quiet of the 9500ix. I was faced with the same question as you and decided to try something new and never regretted it.

Just stay out of France, and take it easy in Switzerland. Germany and Italy have no issues with speed.

It's totally compatible and your car won't give you any false alarms. Audis and some other cars will. I would suggest looking to see if NC cops still use k band and x band radar and then custom programming your V1 with the following link to only beep with 4 signature strength signals for x and k band and perhaps disable the traffic monitoring devices one as well.

Ah good info on the reprogramming for those bands. I suspect that only small towns in NC may still use X band (based on research I did years ago and first hand experience of where I grew up). Here in Charlotte it seems I only have to worry about Ka band (and somewhat laser); with the rest 99% of the time false alarms. Would love to get rid of those.

Glad to hear I probably don't have to upgrade software. Escort looks nice but reminds me of my cheap Whistler I bought 15 years ago. I think I would miss the arrows.

Do what I did. Buy a used V1 with the latest firmware, and sell the old one, I practically broke even on my deal. Get yourself a V1 Connection and tune the detector to suit your environment. You will miss the arrows if you switch to something else.

i turned off X and K bands on my V1 and have no false alarms anymore. My V1 is about 4 years old.

DO NOT UPGRADE the V1!!!! I did that this last year while waiting to get my new M4. It is pretty much trash now because it is constantly beeping with false alarms... Pretty much wasted my $.

I bought a new Passport Max2 and I really like it so far a lot better than the V1.

To avoid the alarms from the Driver's assist package you should just turn off POP detection if your software version has it. Personally I always upgrade when Valentine tells me it's smart to do so.

Wow, two very different opinions about getting the V1 upgraded. Well at the very least I will reprogram to remove POP and probably K band and most of X band (with the exception of the highest levels for those small town sheriff types).

If you go for the upgrade, get the v1 connection and the YAV1 app, if you have an android phone.
