Mysterious POI Symbol
This "X" appeared a few weeks ago. It looks like a railroad crossing sign. There is no railroad there (has not been for 50+ years). Other places where old rail systems crossed do not get the X.
Any ideas what it is?

I invite you all to help me dig for the treasure at the end of the rainbow at the X-men headquarters. I'll have shovels ready.

It's the very odd road closed symbol. Probably due to the Golden Gate Bridge closure.

I deleted a bunch of posts that were attempts to upload photos from the mobile app. Basically, I can zoom out and this is the only X. I am feeling very special.

It's most likely where the 328 Hommage Concept Car resides : http://www.fubiz.net/2011/05/23/bmw-328-hommage/

Lol, I know, I was just kidding because those ugly headlights look exactly like your symbol. The question is....what's hidden beneath that plaza?

It is a road closure. From Google Maps:
Road closed Road closure on CA-1 N. https://www.google.com/maps/@37.8679.../data=!5m1!1e1

I am going to test it tomorrow by putting in an address that would normally go through there, and see if the navi redirects to an alternate route. If closure, navi would redirect. This is what google is showing: closure on 101, and in 1 where mudslides occurred after the big rains But the junction is clear. |

But the road is open. Tried navi and it makes me go around the intersection, though there is a road closure about 8 miles from the intersection. If I enter a destination past the actual closed spot, navi calculates the correct path to avoid the closure. There is some inconsistency between the X and the actual closed spot. Another clue it gives is that it marks the road in black, which I assume is another way of showing a closed road. Thank you everyone for your comments. Glad we are not digging up county roads in search of treasures.

Update: Resolved.
Cause: Engineering mistake by map and data supplier I reported this to Inrix, the company that supplies BMW with navigation data and live traffic reporting. They asked some questions and eventually determined that they had an engineering mistake and it took them two weeks to resolve it. They sent me daily email updates telling me where they were on their resolution, and yesterday they confirmed it is resolved. I picked up the car from dealer today, and the "X" was gone. I was really impressed by Inrix. They had never been contacted by a BMW (or other automotive) users as on their website they are geared towards receiving enquiries from mobile OS users only. They took time to investigate and resolve as opposed to blame the user, the road, BMW, etc. They acknowledged that BMW could not fix this and created a new ticketing process to handle these types of error reporting from end users. A while back I started a different thread (http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1082510) wherein I mention http://www.inrix.com as the data vendor in case others encounter navi issues. |
