2015 is going to be a good year....
Greetings Fellow Enthusiasts!
Having just taken delivery of an e90 I thought I would introduce myself by way of sharing the details. Overview (for those who want to skip the rambling life story to follow): 2011 e90, manual, space gray over black, competition package, comfort, premium 2, moonroof delete. One owner, 60k miles. No claims. Stock with the exception of Corsa exhaust. Showroom pretty. Purchase price: $36.5k, plus $3k for a 3yr/36k warranty. The BMW bug bit me early. I was transported home as a newborn in a ’71 2002, which later became my first car. I won’t labor on about the cars I’ve had, but I will say I’ve lusted after an M3 ever since I sat in an e30 on the showroom floor. I’ve only been in an e30 in motion once, while at a CCA HPDE at Grattan Raceway. I had the pleasure of riding along with Tom Mauk (really nice fellow, amazing driver) in his race car during a practice session. We were out with half a dozen other e30s who were going flat out within inches of each other. After the third lap I realized death wasn’t imminent and enjoyed myself quite thoroughly; it was like watching a touring car race from inside the car. Among other M3s I rode in were an e36 lightweight, and a couple of e46s, manual and SMG, some at Road America, some at Gingerman. All fantastic cars. Originally I was dreaming of a Z4 M Coupe to replace my ’99 M Coupe, which I enjoyed greatly until grad school absconded with it and pretty much everything else. Fast forward through marriage, a few homes, school loans finally being paid off, etc., and I arrived at a place where the back seat was necessary, and perhaps even an extra set of doors. Up until very recently, I had my mind made up on a CPO coupe with ZCP and a 6 speed, in a neutral color. I already have an Audi in Papaya, and it’s impossible to go anywhere without being noticed. Cool color, but never again. My wife, who has listened to me go on about M3s for years, actually found the sedan on the interweb and suggested we buy it. The miles were a bit higher than I wanted, but the price was hard to argue with and any 2011 was going to need an extended warranty regardless. Besides, how often does my wife say "go ahead, buy an M3?” So I pulled the trigger before she came to her senses. The car was in MN and I probably should have flown up there, but it was right before the holidays (hence the price). I decided to take a chance and trust the sales advisor, who assured me the car was flawless and had been thoroughly checked and serviced, including fresh tires (Pilot Sports). I asked him to take photos of any flaws, to which he replied “there aren’t any...” I was skeptical, but after poring over all the pictures and records I took the plunge. New Year’s Eve morning my wife exclaimed “I hear a truck in the driveway!” to which I replied “no that’s the car, honey,” it was idling after a cold start (oh, my, that cold start!) off the transporter. The car, which was exactly as described — not a mark on it anywhere, was immediately sent up to the Werk Shop (very cool, must see shop/restoration facility if you are in Chicagoland) for a thorough wellness check. Last night the mechanic called to report that oil analysis shows no signs of trouble, major systems were all serviced as promised by the dealer, and besides needing a new battery, the car is perfect. I seriously feel like all of my inner children just had the Christmas morning of their lives. My coworkers are wondering why I’ve been randomly giggling throughout the day. I don’t have any big plans yet, though I think a short shift kit is in my future. I intend to track the car occasionally, and depending on complexity, do some of the maintenance myself. I can’t wait to get to know the car, and I’m looking forward to being a part of this community. Cheers, Kristian |

Thanks! Tomorrow is supposed to be TEN times warmer here! As in, a high of ten degrees.
Yes, I'm lucky that my wife tolerates my car enthusiasm, though I've been on both sides of that equation. My '73 2002 track build magically transformed into an engagement ring. To be fair, I can't say she made me sell it, but there were some suggestions made.... Helmsman, tack så mycket! are there many M3s in Sweden? I've spent a lot of time in DK, where cars are super expensive and haven't seen a single one. |

believe we have around 250 E9x M3 in Sweden so fairly rare. Live down town Stockholm myself and don't see M3' very often.. Car's are certainly more expensive here than for instance US, a new M3 is around $90k+ while a loaded easily ends up on $130k... However our Nordic neighbors incl Norway, Denmark and Finland easily pay another 50% or more due to tax! (the way it goes without own car manufacturing I guess). So...are you Danish, your name sounds like it, och din svenska verkar bra? Cheers, Nik |

With only 250 in the whole country, you must get a lot of attention! I was born in the US, and grew up spending summers in Copenhagen with family. I was just there in June for the first time in many years (beautiful summer you had last year). One thing I noticed was a lot more big cars, but perhaps this is because of all the new bridges and easy access from Germany and Sweden. Kristian |

Hi Kristian,
Congrats on your new ride! Fantastic car! I was considering E90 M3 as well, but with the limited selection of M3's in Norway I could not find one that ticked all boxes. I signed the contract an hour ago and now the waiting begins for me:-) Price in Norway for my E92 ZCP 2011 is close to USD 110'. Contrary to you this will be my first bright colored car and I expect to be seen, but don't really care:-) You see, just purchasing a car like the M3 and you are defined as crazy in Norway. As an example I could by a brand new Tesla model S for less... That's what I call crazy! Good luck with your car! |

Wow that pricing was strange, so clearly you put a lot less tax on the "green" cars. Wonder why, Norway should have all the gas and oil a M3 require... $110k is a lot of money, I hope you got low mileage and good extras? Enjoy bro! Last edited by Helmsman; 01-09-2015 at 02:33 AM.. |

The mileage on my car is 24000 km or 14912 miles. The only extra is black 19" black M3 9X winter wheels. And the car is waxed and cleaned. There are very few DD M3's in Norway and I understand seeing the costs involved... |

Bought mine at 19k km a year ago, paid 470KSEK/ ~$65K. Not the cheapest around but loaded with the stuff I wanted so had to bite the bullet.. Just had mine back from BMW after a DCT oil leak fix. Christmas and all but still, it took four weeks (!). Really lucky I checked the box just before warranty ended... You had DCT box? If so I recommend that you check for possible oil leak while at dealer warranty mate! Lots of reading/pictures to find on the forum which can be useful as the dealer possibly doesn't have a clue. So although I should stop working now (sort off..) and grab a glass of wine, I probably simply have to take a spin instead... |
