Peeling steering wheel

really starting to look like crap - what is the solution?

(1) manually peel the remainder; or

(2) have it repaired?

leave "as is" is no longer the answer.

Pics would help to see the condition of your steering wheel .
My steering wheel came out brand new when using this...here is my thread with pics and DIY=> http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=768340

if its really bad, you may want to have it professionally repaired. They will likely sand it with fine sandpaper and respray with euro black that BMW uses.

Just buy a new one, installation is extremely easy.

I had the same thing on my E46 ZCP wheel trim. I peeled what I could off, and it looked like shit, so I bought new trim. A new steering wheel trim is less than $200.00. Quit being cheap and fix it correctly.

Just wrap that piece - It's easy to remove. I wrapped mine in dry carbon to match the carbon leather trim and mine wasn't even peeling. I just wanted to spice up that dull, matte black steering wheel.

Haaah... , now I see it's not the leather !
From what I'm seeing in your pic => Just replace it !
Or another option is to wrap it in CF wrap , saw it on here and was looking good , but you will need the skills to do it .

the bezel near the buttons peel...

I feel you OP, I don't know a solution. My wheel also peels. It started with a very little peel on the top corner, now, my entire left side is half peeled.

I've repainted it before, but ended up not liking the way it came out. There is no way to repaint the bezel like OEM finish DIY at home. At the end of the day, I ordered the new part. Best thing to do is to just replace with the new part. It will save you time and headache.

That's a great question!

OP, your options are to:
Replace it.

Wrap it. The carbon looks good if you have the carbon leather trim. See attached

Strip it and paint it. You would have to strip it really well because you would be painting over a layer that is already peeling.

What kind of wrap did you use? That looks like it matches the carbon leather trim perfectly. I used 3M Di-noc which is a high quality product, but it's not an exact match. The 3M product has a little bit more of a "shimmer" to it.

This. Don't be cheap, you drive an M3, not a Corolla.

Not an uncommon problem actually. If it's still under warranty BMW will replace it. If not the solutions above are all solid.

Common prob to all the trim in the BMW cars as it's a soft touch coated part. It's reallly just crap IMO. If you were to peel the entire wheel or use IPA it will all come off and it doesn't look bad at all, it's just a shiny plastic underneath. Replacing the trim is and option as well as wrapping it.
