Makes no sense.
Less power worse fuel economy heavier front end more pollution lose lose proposition. That's not ballsy, its stupidity. I am not saying the new M is better, but this makes no sense.

If you want to retain the S65, the only thing the new car gives you performance-wise is solid subframe (available for E9X M3), carbon fiber drive shaft (available for 6MT and soon DCT), suspension (plenty of superior aftermarket options to factory suspension) and brakes (again, plenty of superior aftermarket alternatives). You could do all of the above mods and then some (diff brace, light-weight battery, etc), and you end up with the S65 in a far more nible and capable chassis and some 10 grand left over in your pocket. Spend that on a supercharger, and you can be the faster car, too. |

Good points. On the E90, wheels and brakes can save 60 lbs (from ZCP setup), all unsprung weight savings that has the handling equivalence of 200-300lbs of gross weight reduction, a basic suspension upgrade (some have lighter springs) and solid subframe mounts would all significantly improve handling. For an extra $2.5k, can get a filter, tune (MT can get to 8,600 rpm), pulley, and x-pipe for an extra 30-40 bhp. You still won't be quite as fast in a straight line but on a track, would be an extremely capable vehicle that could keep up with almost anything out there.

it'd probably be easier to do f80 style cosmetics on a E90 M3

not about balls more about:
Someone would have to buy a F80 M3 and do a swap with a $20k S65 motor, not exactly cheap. Last edited by Flying Ace; 12-22-2014 at 12:20 PM.. |
