DCT from part to manual mode or D mode?

sometimes when turning my car on going from N i push the shifter to the right and sometimes it starts in D mode and sometimes it starts in Manual mode...

any reason it might do this?

I vaguely recall there being a software revision that did this that was rectified in either a subsequent revision or the latest/greatest (240E). Does that ring a bell for anyone else?

Yes. Before I was updated to 240e, my car recalled the last state the transmission was in. I have no idea which software version it was but once I update to 240e, my car now starts in D mode...

I'd suspect then your tune might have been based on that revision. Most tuners will update tunes to newer base software, so you might want to check with your tuner and see if you can be updated.
