BMW X6 Design Pure Extravagance

I think the new X6 looks WAY better than the previous one. It looks a bit smaller, sportier and more agressive. The overall lines have improved a lot.

I'd definitely pick the M-package, perfect.

What do you think?

I'd definitely get the MSport package too...I wanted to get it so much that they brought me one and I put it in my garage!

Nice, but how the heck do you see out of the back, especially when reversing/parking?

And yet BMW sell these as options for such a car, for X6/X4 it should be standard.

Rear will be standard, at least in USA, with the new laws and regulations, but I bet they'll keep it as option elsewhere, unless they are forced to.

To be honest, new X6 reminds me of X4 a lot.

Except the interior which Is tempting for me to upgrade but not sure I can live with the X6 mass. Many folk mistake the X4 as a new model X6 until they see the X4 badge.

I think X4 interior is just left over E70/E71 interior, recycled into X4.

the back looks to soft, the old one was a sharper and more aggressive design and it differed more from the X5, now they are too similar in the front and it looks like a hatchback version of the x5 not an individual model. The old X6 was something of an icon I don’t think this car setting the same standard..

Yes it' has less presence now, but Msport is the best look for it.

Here's a photo. Personally I think its more restricted than the E71, but not unusable. I've never really had a problem seeing what I need to out of the back window.

I do suggest proper placement of the side mirrors so that you can see blind spots.

A backup camera is essential. It was standard on the E71, but they've decoupled it for the F16 (along with other stuff). Personally I don't think was right thing to do. No one buying this car should really be given an option to not have a backup camera.

Its definitely more restricted than the X5, but it is less restricted than many other cars. For instance the 3Series coupe (before they were 4Series). I had one of those as a loaner once and with its slit rear-view view and tiny side mirrors I felt really vulnerable. That's a car really in need of a back-up camera.

Thanks @Barbja We have letter/post boxes bigger in this country!
As you say rear view camera essential but BMW charge you for the option. Criminal!

If you see one or the other from far away, yes, its hard to tell them apart. However, if they are next to each other the difference is obvious. Also up close, even if you don't see the badge, the X6 is a lot more ginormous than the X4.

As others have mentioned, the interior of the X4 is a mash between the E71 and the spartan interior of an X3. If you are used to the luxury of the 5 class, the X4 interior is really a let down.

Also, for the E71 vs F16: unless you know what to look for, the difference is really only evident when you are looking at them side-by-side. When I was picking up my car, I saw an X6 on the lot from probably 30 yards away (rear quarter view). I was trying to figure out if it was an old or new one. My only clue that it was the new one was the crease on the body (two instead of one).

When I see my F16, it really doesn't scream to me "that's a different car!" than my E71 that I drove for 3y. Well, except the new one is white and the old one was Deep Sea Blue. Even though the F16 is only ever-so slightly larger than the E71, it feels extra lots bigger to me. It has to be the transition from dark car to white one.

If you compare the X4 to the X6, yes the X6 is more massive. If you compare the X5 to the X6, the X6 is less massive (than the E70, not the E53).

I think that's a sad and true statement, I get the opposite with the X4. when I saw the launch of the new X6 I was like what! They dumbed the look a bit and its like the old version had one too many Big Macs, less stealthy but still looks good in an X5 sort of way but men that interior is to die for. Hope given the way Porsche have upped their game with the Macan the future X4 will have series 5 luxury, for now I await to see the F16 in the flesh and decide to upgrade, I love that interior to bits and msport look.

The rear visibility pic you posted of F16 looks a lot worse than the E71 and F26, how can they go backwards?

That's the same thing I thought. What the heck!

Like you said, the new interior is SO awesome. If my car hadn't been totaled, I'm unsure if I would have upgraded though. That $30k shortfall from my trade-in would have had to pony up would have been a really serious thing to overcome.

I loved my old car and I also love my new car. Just in different ways .

In your other thread you mentioned some quirks on the F16, can you kindly share those?

X4 does indeed look a lot like thr X6 from the outside, I know cars and BMW in particular pretty well and even I find it hard to tell if it's an X4 or X6, until you see them next to each other of course.

The interior is very nice, X4 interior doesn't seem too different from the X5/6 imo but I haven't driven one yet. Rear view camera is indeed a must-have and should be standard and not optional...

Carried some people business associates thought they were in an X6 till the saw the rear badge and were like what! When was this launched? As much as the X6 is enormous in size the X4 is not that small hence the confusion reminds me of the Macan/Cayenne confusion.

The X4 has an interior similar to the E70/E71 (old stuff) whereas the F16 X6 interior is similar to the F15 X5 (new stuff). I think people who have owned an E70/E71 for 3+y will think that the X4 interior is stale. I did. That's why I bought an F16 instead of an X4 even though I would have preferred a smaller car. That F16 is huge!!

Agreed, X4 interior is very old looking and a big step backward compared to the newer/nicer F15/F16 interiors.
