Austin Yellow growing on me
Hate to admit it but after doing on a whole thread on colors and placing AY last on my list, it has been growing on me eversince. Just goes to show how subjective colors can be. Got the chance to see it in person today at my local dealer and it looked really interesting. I think it compliments tge F80 pretty good even though it seems to be more popular on the F82. This picture by PSI shows the color really well on a F80. That said, am just not sure I want this much attention. Am afraid it will be a cop magnet as well, as in more easy to spot/remember a car that was driving around fast vs say a black or white car. Will see what I decide when the 2016 becomes available Meanwhile, would be interesting to get some feedback from current AY owners. Any tickets yet?

I don't think it'll be a cop magnet but put it this way. If the cop was walking over to your car, having a good day and all before stopping you, now you're getting two tickets and a citation.
I like it a lot too. |

I have an AY M4. I was worried until I saw my car in person. I love the color and get so many compliments, it's surprising. My prior M3 coupes were silver, silver, black sapphire, and mineral white. I liked those colors, but I love AY. It just makes me smile each time I see it. I'm glad I took a chance. Plus, the car looks great (and different) in all lights and looks pretty clean when pretty dirty. BMW knocked it out of the park with AY. You'll regret not getting it, if you are drawn to it in pictures. It's better in person.
No tickets. |

I don't have one but have seen it in person (M4). It is a much more complex and rich color in person.
I don't think I could pull the trigger on it, but can't fault anyone for picking it. Just be prepared for attention wherever you go. Not necessarily from cops but other motorists. I can't imagine the endless conversations at the gas station. If you don't mind or like the attention then I say go for it. PS- I too laughed at the color when I first saw it. Even Roundel called it "Urinetown". I now have to admit its really not bad. Now YMB, I'm still not sold. UPDATE PS Part II- I've gone and done it. I actually ordered AY for my M3. Unbelievable comeback for AY. I went from laughing at the color to picking it. Obviously those in charge of paint know what I like more than me. Last edited by OneRib; 03-22-2015 at 10:22 PM.. Lol, a thread for me I see!
The color is stunning. I thought I would get bored with it, but every day I find myself staring at my own car and every time my heart melts. It indeed is an attention whore, but fuck that. Now, if you happen to be a member of my sex, don't do this color. In washington it's okay, here people are too busy to drive their priuses, but everywhere else you'll end up taking phone numbers out of windscreens and door handles and license plate holders and so on. the intros are always good. "Hi, I'm Joe, I'm the one who asked how fast your car is. Call me." Yeah right, getting to it right now. I actually had a garbage bag in the car for the numbers. That's how pathetic it was on my tiny road trip. I get pulled over a lot, cops drive next to me, see I'm a member of the wrong sex, and pull back and lights go off. I have indeed gotten a ticket in this, but he was the fourth cop to pull me over that night. I'd say I deserved it at that point. If I were an actual adult, with less time and more real world issues to deal with, I'd go for the SS/SS. My car is stuck being a school buss, my personal entertainment center, my joy and my toy. A bright color with black interior is really needed for my life. A spouse who knew how to clean him would be the other thing, but all in all, my life is so damn serious sometimes, it's truly a release to walk to my car, remember all the stupid stunts i've pulled in that, and the color just makes it more loveable. Yes, this was an other Anna loves her Peter story.

Buahahahahahahahahhaaa
I had a pretty bad night tonight. One of my projects got hit in the face by the spouse, and I spent an hour trying to explain that no man, female or a kid deserves violence, ever. Sometimes I wish I could just walk away, to my car and go for a spin and not see what's going on around me. Still, it feels fab to walk to Peter while down and miserable, and with huge pile to sort through again and just the feel of him starting up makes me forget for a sec that I usually roll around in real world way, way too much.

I have to admit, I've never been a fan of the yellow in photos but after seeing it approximately 5x in person it's really growing on me - even to the point where I wished I had it instead of AW.
With that said, I really feel if this was offered as an individual color my perception, as well as many others, would change and would also make us WANT the color. It's growing on me. I think the M4 was meant for it which is why they debuted the car in the color. |

I've had silver/grey/white cars in my past and after seeing AY for the first time at the auto show, I knew I had to have it in that color. You only notice attention if you're insecure about it. These machines grab attention regardless of the color.
I did however notice that the color is brilliant in the sunlight but has an olive green base that stands out in low light. Otherwise, the color complements the curves of the car very well as shown in your OP photo. Either way, you can't go wrong with any of the color options available!

Love my AY M4. The color does draw attention but not too much and not in a bad way. Unless BMW comes out with another color between now and my next M4 in a couple of years, I really believe I will be buying another AY car.
Pros... stays very clean (better than any color I've owned), shows the lines really well, has depth and complexity, suites the car well and is really sporty. Cons... only works with a black interior (IMO), in a smaller city everyone knows it's you, I don't love the green hue in low/artificial light.

How about MW...it has a pearl effect in certain light settings.
The metallic component also adds a little depth to the paint.

After I saw Austin Yellow in person I ordered a new M3 that color. It'll be at port on the 22nd. I'm so over due for a ticket that when I get one I won't blame the color. The last two tickets I got over 8 years ago were in a dark blue Audi (65 in a 65, started to accelerate from 55MPH 100 yards before the speed limit changed to 65MPH) and a white Porsche (90 in a 75 in the middle of nowhere Montana). It definitely wasn't the color that attracted the cops. Although I don't typically like bright "look at me" colors I couldn't resist the allure of Austin Yellow.

I love it, but I wouldn't buy it.
I'd certainly appreciate seeing it from time to time.

I usually have very conservative tastes in terms of colors for my cars but AY does look incredibly striking and really brings out the lines on the M4. For me, the tipping point was how much my wife loves the color -- of all the colors the car comes in its her favorite.
Over the month I've owned it - I've grown to really like it though I must admit I did have a few sleepless nights in the first few days with thoughts of "oh my god what have I done....I've bought a *gold* car!!" going through my head. It does draw attention! A *lot* of attention. Getting the car wrapped in a different color is always a backup option if AY turns out to be too much over time. |

I had all intentions of going individual or silverstone, but when I saw my car at the dealership with the ceramics..I had to have it. No regrets, love the car more daily especially when modified
