bad turning radius?
I noticed this pretty recently that when I'm trying to make a tight u-turn or pull out of a tight spot that it doesn't turn as much as I would expect. is this common for a suv this size? I had a mercedes C350 before this car so it would be unfair to compare it to that car lol.

I find it tighter than E70 which was a huge pain in the ass to turn in small spaces, but it is not that bad. I think with F15 it's an illusion since the steering wheel is so much lighter, but overall longer body on F15 doesn't help either. The spots that I could easily tackle with E70, I find having to make more moves because of visibility & size of the vehicle. The shape of the hood throws me off since I can't see all the way to the corners now.

This is quite a normal feeling as the turning radius of the F15 is 12.7 meters, which is a lot. It just does not turn as much as Mercs and VWs. The VW Touareg, for example, needs 11.9 meters (39 ft), while the current ML turns in 11.8 meters (38.7 ft). Admittedly, both are shorter than the F15, but not by much while the difference in the radius is huge imo.

Worse than MB R and Lexus LX (both longer). I know because I have a driveway retaining wall that has 3-0 score against visitors who insist on climbing it and backing down it. All our cars get pushed to their turning radius daily. Also, we have to make a cul de sac turn so I have a good sense of how they all turn.
I must say that one advantage of the F15 steering is that when you push it to its limit it does not make funny sounds or affect the idle RPM. I am guessing electronic vs hydraulic get credit for this. |
