Front License Plate Location
Can anyone confirm the front license plate location for the M4 and have any pics?
I thought I read/saw that this may be offset...

The dealer will drillholes in the bumper and it will be centrally placed. You can tell themnot to and either drive without a front plate or buy a toe hook kit to mount it on the passenger half of the bumper, offset.

The cops around here won't let the no front plate thing fly and I don't feel giving them any extra reasons to pull me over. They aren't dumb and have heard all of the excuses, which most of the time won't work. It usually just ends up irritating them and might end up making more problems for yourself during the stop. [QUOTE=minn19;17043048]I bought one from these guys http://www.usmillworks.com and actually just installed it this morning. Nice little kit and fairly easy to install. If you have PDC sensors you have to mount it upside down to clear those.
Thanks for sharing the link to USMillWorks! I will still keep in the trunk, however, will use this as a backup as appropriate.

Yah, I thought about that. But, I like to take my plates of when I do an in depth detail job and I like the quick release aspect of this kit. I also like not putting anything else on the paint that I don't have to. It is another good option though.

I would never drill holes in the front bumper. I would rather pay the $50 ticket if a cop is being a big enough dick to give you one. I lived in MO and TX for a bit, both states required front plates and I only gotten 1 warning so it's worth the risk. If you must, use US Mill Works and it's made in the Merica.

Random question: when do you guys tell your CA to not drill the holes on the bumper? My car's still on a ship.

Mine actually asked me how I wanted to mount the front plate. I would just call your CA now and let him/her know you don't want it done. Then e-mail them again in a couple of days for a reminder.

Using the toehook slot with specialized mounting plates is a good alternative to drilling holes into your bumper if you wish not to. It is offset as you refer to, I believe? See photos above, post #14.

Held plates on for 10 years and I never had a problem once. Takes about 20 minutes to do and works great. This car looks pretty tough to get behind the bumper though so I'm either going with the tow hook or the motorized one. Different states treat this different - in CA it seems like if you don't park by meters much you're golden. in MN like @Minn19 says you're asking for a long conversation with Johnny without it, and you might get more than just a ticket. |
