Comfort Access Is Not Working On Drivers Side Only..

Has anyone else had this problem? I used both keys that I have and they both work perfectly on the passenger side, but not the drivers side AT ALL. It has been getting sketchy as time goes on.. I am assuming something needs to be replaced inside the handle, right? Is that covered under warranty?

Its annoying especially since its freezing out lately and all I want to do is get in my car quick (us bimmer girls are spoiled now and now I have to actually reach INTO my bag ). Does this warrant a trip to my dealer????? Thank you

Yes, had this happen on my car. There is a CA sensor in the handle and that had gone bad. Replaced under warranty so can't quote you a price to fix. As I recall the sensor is built into the handle so they had to order a new handle and have it painted to match the car...

Mel, it is a pretty quick fix once they have the part. Just have them get everything ordered ahead of time...

Yes, good question! As I noted, my SA indicated that they needed to order the handle and have it painted to match my car. Apparently the sensor is integrated into the handle so it's not just a matter of popping off the handle and replacing the sensor. Once you have the new handle painted I can't imagine it is that difficult...

Don't forget that for Comfort Access there are batteries in the keyset that need to be changed every so often as well.

Yes, but OP notes that both keys work perfectly on the passenger side while the driver's side is not functioning. Clearly the issue is not the key battery or the passenger side would not function either...

I'm taking it in Monday night. He said he has a feeling it's the handle and I am out of warranty... Wonderful. Like literally two weeks! He said he can apply for something but we don't know yet till they know exactly what is wrong... Damm Pam... This couldn't go bad a month ago???

Sounds like he might try to get it fixed under goodwill. Being just out of warranty sounds like he's trying to get you cover as a warranty repair.

My car is at dealership with similar issue. Once inside car and door locks automatically after going 5 mph or something like that it locks you inside the car! pull the door handle both inside and outside to try to get out and it does not unlock fully to open. However using the key fob unlocks the door no problem?

Is this a joke? You took car to dealer to change a setting easily found in your NAV screen settings. Auto-door lock at 5mph is a personal setting. Also, M3 doors take two pulls of the handle to unlock if they didn't auto-unlock at engine shutdown. It's a safety feature.

Is this a joke? Maybe my last post was unclear i will give it another shot.
My driver side door handles at random (sometimes it works) will not unlock the door. When i pull the door handle to get out of the car the prong that pops up for the lock goes up half way and on release of the door handle it goes back down.
However the unlock button on the key fob unlocks door it as it should so somewhere between door handles and the lock mechanism the is a failer. Hope thats a better explication of my problem.

Mel and I had the same issue. It is the CA sensor in the door handle which unfortunately requires replacing the entire handle, including painting to match. Hopefully you are under factory/extended warranty. Mine was repaired under factory warranty so I never saw a bill to give you a feel for the cost...

Here are the parts on Realoem.com

Looks like this is a common problem. What causes it to fail?

Thank you BMW for the quality parts!

Going to guess that moisture eventually enters the part and corrodes the circuitry.
