First M Car
Hello Gents. I was 25 when I got my first BMW (5yrs ago). It was a CPO 2006 BMW 330i, I really loved that thing. My BMW sales guy warned me that once you owned a BMW, you'll always have a BMW in your garage. He is wrong, I now have 2 BMWs in my garage (it's a terrible, but good addiction)...
Since the 2006 330i, I owned: 2011 535i, 2012 X5 Sport (twice), 2012 750Li, and 2014 Imola Red m-sport 640i GC (still have this one). Due to early mid-life crisis, I wanted something that is light and performs well. I ended with this beautiful Mineral Grey Metallic M3, Dual Clutch, Silverstone Extended Leather, and Exec package. This is my first M car (m sport doesn't count), and I hope it's not my last. Impression: This damn car should've came with a warning label. It pulls really hard during acceleration, grips around corner like it's on rails, and my eye balls want to pop off during hard braking. I have driven an F10 M5 before, but it's not as nimble as this M3. This is the most practical, border line super car you can have for your money. Short fall: I picked this car off the lot and now realized it didn't have HK sound system. Being an audiophile, it's a disappointment. Who the hell thought it was cool to make HK optional on a $70k+ car? HK Hi-Fi should be standard. Good thing the M3 exhaust is music to the ears. Overall, I'm a happy man. Cheers... Congrats. Looks great. I suppose BMW's attitude is that this is really a mid to entry level performance sedan whose likely buyers will appreciate the option to keep it cheap or fully load it. In reality, it's a $62k car, not a $70k car, and I think you get A LOT for that price. Nav could have been optional like the other 3 and 4 series cars but it's not. I had my 4GC optioned to $63k when I decided that was ridiculous when I could get an M3 for $5k more, which is what I did. It's all brilliant marketing with decoy product pricing designed to make you rationalize an upgrade, either in a package or in a full car.

Its a German car, most options are a la carte. At least BMW packages most of it up for you. If this were a Porsche Cayman you would have a $90k build before you realize you dont have any premium audio lol.
Grats on the car! I honestly havent seen a single picture where I prefer the 18's on an M3 over 19's until now. Nice shot! |

Congrats on the new ride man! Best way to start on the M cars IMO. M3 was both my first BMW and M car: at 19 I was lucky enough to buy an E30 M3 back when they were at the bottom of their value...although I was stupid enough to sell it last year.
I've found the HK on my F34 (same as what's offered on F80) is ok, but hardly audiophile quality. BavSound is doing a special on their stage one kits right now (seems like a great deal)...I would think it will provide as good or better sound quality than the HK system. In fact, now that I see they're running a sale, I may take advantage of it and improve my HK system .

Congrats on the new car!
The option packaging on this car really isn't bad, and you do get a lot of features built in. I wasn't too happy about the $4300 price tag for the Executive package, it seems like an awful lot to spend for what it contains. However, they've packed that package with features I'm unwilling to give up, like sat radio, keyless entry, and heated steering wheel. I didn't think I would like it, but I'm now addicted to the HUD. The car does get very expensive when you load it with options, but you also have the choice to eliminate options that you don't care about and keep the cost under control. |

First, congratulations on the new car! I really like that color. But, your mid-life crisis is REALLY early, lol
I tend to agree with you. I wish the HK system was stock and they offered the B&O system as an option. But, I also think BMW is actually pretty good at packaging options. Like someone else said, get a base 911 and you can option it to over $130K. MB not as bad, but not as good as BMW and you pay extra for a warranty.

I would lower it with KW, but the rear looks slammed in person. Once I add M Performance lip, it will be just right. |

If this is your midlife crisis at 30, your real midlife crisis won't be cheap...
Still $70K doesn't sound so bad, my price tag ended up in the 80s and I still feel like I skimped (though I did get the HK audio). |
