Looking for lease advice from anyone here for my friend

I leased my car but my MSRP was like 64k and they took 2k off and im paying around $815 month and total out of pocket was about $3790. I thought this was fair.
My friend who i have been trying to help locate and get an M3 has found a car that is 98% exactly what he wants. the car is located out of state and he already got transport cost of about $800. Now he is faced with the immediate gratification scenario.

The car he is interested the dealer will not offer ANY Discounts and it has an MSRP of about $74,000

Dealer offered him a 3 year lease with $5300 out of pocket for $1100 month. he feels this is very high compared to quotes he got in NY and NJ at other dealers for the same build spec car which was $900 with less upfront fees. These other dealers were discounting. Hey $200 a month more is still $7200 more over the course of the lease.

What sort of action does an M buyer take when a dealer offers full MSRP these days? My friend is very anxious to get the car but he also doesn't want to be taken advantage of.

Are the numbers quoted very out of line or should he just jump ship and keep searching for a dealer willing to cut some slack? Problem is we have both been looking for weeks and there isn't much out there that suits his color and option preferences.

not much out there at dealers except cars ordered with oddball options.

Can anyone shed some light what current owners are lease these cars for for cars over the 70k MSRP mark. Are all dealers offering any discount and if so what range discounts should be expected on the M3?

Maybe he can also try contacting Steve Thomas BMW (forum vendor) to see what they can work out for him.

Really suggest you go to the ask a dealer forum and learn how leasing works. It will help you more readily determine whether you got a good deal or not. You need to understand residual, money factor, cap cost, etc.

He doesn't want to finance the car!
Only other route to get the payment lower besides the cost of the car being lower.

Also Bmw offers a usaa discount all he has to do is sign up for an account doesn't have to have insurance with them and he will be eligible for a discount. Mine was 1500 off

That seems really high. I thought the point of a lease was so that you have less out of pocket money AND a lower monthly payment?

Leasing isn't smoke and mirrors. There are variables and calculations which determine the monthly payment. He needs to assess the numbers and see where he's being taken advantage of.

Impatient negotiators always end up over-paying.

Tell him to find patience and common sense, or shut up and pay up.

As others have mentioned, there are FAR more variables in leasing then financing, and comparing just the monthly payments is misleading.

Yes, many dealers are offering discounts of various sizes and shapes. But it takes time and patience to find them and negotiate a decent deal.

Lacking patience, see the comment above.

In my experience, these are opposing interests. You're not going to get a good deal on a car you're freaking out about. You just aren't. Your mind is clouded with "want" too much that you can't see things for what they are.

Tell your friend to settle down first, and be patient. Or pay too much. It really doesn't matter, honestly.
