LOL....weren't you gonna get an Abarth because you didn't think the 128 wasn't fun enough? so how does the Countryman fix that problem? by getting something so boring that you won't remember shit?

I was but we already have an Arbath...don't need two. My lease is ending in next month or so and I'm trying to be sure I want to make the commitment to keep it. The 128 is a fun car, longest I ever kept one, but is it practical for the next few years, I suppose only I can answer that. But I would like to get general thoughts on the Countryman from other 1 series owners.

How about the Cooper S or Cooper JCW? They are probably much more fun than the Countryman and closer to your original choice of another Abarth. Unless of course you need the practicality of the four doors of the Countryman, but if that's the case you probably wouldn't have originally thought of the Abarth as another car.

All I have to say is I went to test drive a cuntyman S about a year ago with a female friend and I never even got to drive it because she hated it so much, she literally drove around the block and just pulled back into the dealership and we left.
If you want cars that may share similar traits as our cars or an abarth with a little more room though, at reasonable prices, I think the cars to check out are the fiesta ST, focus ST, or what many people really rave about and seemingly like more than M235i - the new WRX. |

We have gone down this road before with you. Go back and read your last thread on this. Good advice was given!

Might want to check out the Mini forums. The fanboys over there will give you good advice.

MINIs from the last few years: look at the repair/reliability history. Horrendous. Do you live near your dealer? Do you like visiting him often? Do you like being without your car and in a loaner econobox? If so, get a new MINI.
The R53 Cooper S with a few mods is a blast to drive, but the last reliable year for the Cooper was 2006 (last year of the R53 Coupe). |

To start with, ignore references to any car being 'girly' and don't trust recommendations from anybody who thinks that way .
Personal experience: it's horribly unreliable, does not ride well, and isn't actually that fast (nor exciting). It's also on, now, an old platform. Try a Cooper S! They've gotten bigger, and they're about to offer a four-door if that's what you're looking for. In comparison, I have 40k miles on this one series after 20k from the original owner... Not a single issue. You obviously can't draw any conclusions from my own reliability experiences, but just to add to the noise... |

I recently got a chance to drive a mini clubman S with the 6spd. My god that car was a blast. I am 6'3" and fit in that car perfectly. Everything was where it should be too. I'd love to have one as a second car. Pure joy. Countryman looks lame as hell though haha

I agree. I've heard people refer to the 1er as a chick car as well. Especially 128i convertibles. V6 Mustangs too, even though they now have around 300 hp.

I love the countryman. If you get an S, All4 with a manual gearbox they are a blast. I really recommend the new F56 mini with the B38 3 banger. Build quality is leaps ahead of R5x and R6x cars and they are a blast to drive.

I've had both the R53 & R56 MCS. The only problem I ever had from either of them was due to a recall, and covered under warranty. I'm not sure the Countryman would be of interest to me. If I wanted more room and AWD, I'd probably look at a 5dr WRX
