Ordering outside your state - is it possible?

I'm located in So Cal and interested in looking outside of the state if I can't get the deal I'm looking for. Can I order out of state and take delivery locally?

SoCal has more dealerships in close proximity than anywhere else in the US. There is no better place to buy!

There are two options if you want to take delivery locally. One is the order out of state and have them ship the car to you. The second is to find a dealer that will do a courtesy delivery at your dealership's expense. Option #2 will probably be harder to find since I've heard SoCal dealerships aren't really willing to do it.

Option number three, Road trip. Best idea ever, I assure you.

Thanks for the replies. If I have the car shipped to So Cal, it'll likely cost a few grand (depending on where it's coming from), which would probably negate any savings I got from going that route. Sounds like the best option is to find a way to stay in state or fairly close (Vegas or Phoenix).

I think coast-to-coast is about $1200... If you are not getting any discount in SoCal, then you can save some money by buying out of state. It all depends on the discount you can get in your area.

$1200 is not bad actually. I'll give this a shot and see what happens.

I'm looking to order an M4 with an individual interior. I've already worked out the individual stuff with BMWNA and gotten the approvals, but the Munich plant can't build individual interiors for M4's until March production. My BMWNA rep is telling me that technically, I can't put the order in until January, but she thinks I need to work out the deal with a dealer pretty soon. I'm trying to get $1k over invoice. Should be interesting.

Personally I wouldn't try to combine special ordering and discount dealer - I'm saying this from experience

You can try Greg Poland at Pacific BMW, but I think your changes of $1000 over may be tough ... given you're going individual i'd try to find an easy to work with dealer first - any emotional energy you save will be worth the money.

No issues on my e92 M3. I did a Platinum Interior at $1k over invoice and it worked out nicely. Are you thinking that none of the dealers will entertain it?
