M3 Side Sun Shades? Require rear sunshade option?
My wife and I paid a visit to the PDC in South Carolina today and saw that every M3 they had there had the side sunshades in the rear. I called BMWNA afterwards and asked if those came with the rear sunshade option or if they were standard (since I noticed all 10+ of the M3s I saw at the PDC had them). They could not give me an answer after 30min on the phone.
Wondering if someone with the M3 and no rear sunshade option can confirm whether or not the side shades are present without the rear option. Saw mixed messages when I searched around. |

The side shades come as standard with Full Leather. Rear power shade is an option at a reduced price of $350 (from $575) when Full Leather is selected. Reason it is reduced is FL comes with side shades. Rear shade is never standard unless optioned. Speccing the Rear power shade at $575 DOES include side shades (this can also be seen on the configurator).
BMW NA, like most dealers, are clueless. Hope I've answered your question. |

I wish executive pkg did not include rear side shades.
It is pretty useless to those cars with good tint and it is just another components that can produce interior rattles. |

I noticed all of the fleet M3s at the PDC in South Carolina did not have full leather but they all has the side shades. I guess they probably had the exec package?

I ran into same issue with the executive package and my dealer was able to remove the sunshade from the build. It took a few days after ordering it to get it removed though.

Yes sir, you are correct. It makes no sense why a)BMW include the side shades unless specced specifically and b)that their website/literature makes no mention of them.

There is a bug in the ordering. When I placed my order in July the dealer could not remove the rear sunshade from my list. So they just discounted it. I bet what you are seeing is everyone else having that same issue. So it looks like when you order an M3 you get the rear sunshade whether you like it or not. I know others have said their dealer was able to remove later down the line before production started.

Just wanted to confirm if others were able to get the extended leather (base leather) without the rear power sun shade option? And if so, did your dealer have to do anything special to deselect this option for your build before production began? |

They were able to remove it for both my car and my wife's. Not sure the exact procedure. If they tell you otherwise...they might not be trying hard enough.
I'm surprised BMW has not fixed this ordering issue as much as it has come up. |

I was just forced to have the sunshade on my build too. They tried to remove it but the car went into production before it could be completed. (I actually believe the dealer because the car went into production the day after the order was placed)
Has anyone complained to BMWNA and gotten a credit or response? I know these are 62k plus cars but $575 is a lot of money regardless if the dealer gives you the option at invoice. Judging by other board members this ordering problem has never been fixed since the car started production. Last edited by alg200; 11-23-2014 at 06:54 PM.. |

When ordering this was an issue for some reason. On the website, a couple times it would add sunshade if I went back and forth a couple times but not always. CA from other dealership sent me the attached images to explain. When I ordered from dealer I bought it from, I was able to get extended leather without any rear shades.

So if I order exec pack without full leather, will my car have the manual side shades or not? I'd love to have them but not for $575.

I had rear sunshade option on my 335 and find I use it quite often. But now not sure I want to pay the money for it again for my M4 lol. Getting ready to place order today!

Just get a good tint, and avoid another potential rattle source.

Just to follow up with this issue for my order...
Dealer told me the rear power sunshade option (415) which included the manual rear sun shades on the door windows was mandatory option with the extended leather. I told them this wasn't true based on the responses I saw on this forum. The dealer emailed BMW NA and asked a poorly worded question and still claimed it was the option was mandatory. After a bit of persistence and emailing them ordering guide I, again, got from this forum, they emailed BMW NA again and asked for clarification on removing option 415. Finally, they agreed that there is a glitch in the ordering system that apparently defaults to adding this option for M3 builds and that it could be removed. The BAD NEWS is that this back and forth B.S. with BMW NA pushed me back from early Jan to mid-Feb week #7 production, which sucks. I guess I'll just keep waiting... Thanks to this forum for sharing ordering stories and facts so that I could save $575 and get my M3 just the way I want it |

I'm ordering the M4. Anyone know if the power rear sunshade option includes the manual rear side sunshades too?? If so that might be worth it. I have a daughter that is always complaining about the sun in her eyes.

I was on the phone with BMW for an hour trying to figure this out (and the poor guy...nice as could be...was completely useless). The answer is that the side shades do not come with the power rear. I believe you get those with one of the packages.

For the M3, adding option 415 - rear power sunshade automatically adds option 417 - rear door manual sunshades. After digging into this issue, I found this text in the ordering guide listed on the forum.
I am not sure that this is the case for the M4, however. I've not studied the M4 much. I'm not sure the manual sun shades are possible for the M4 since it doesn't have full door rear windows. |
