Unrealistic pricing on M3?

Would this be an unrealistic offer, from my end?

As far as I can calculate, based on Edmunds.com invoice numbers, the Vehicle Subtotal (incl. dest charge, after discount) of $68,875 is still ~$2K above invoice. It's then the credits, that BMW would reimburse to the dealer, which make it a great deal.

Honestly, if it's over invoice, it's probably doable, depending on the demand in the market. That's the tricky part.

Reach out to a few dealers with these numbers and see what they'll do for you. If it saves you a shit ton of money, why not fly out to an out of state dealer to collect your car. Get Really fancy and pick a state that doesn't charge sales tax!

I'm just wondering, can the Un4gettable and/or Innovations Credit be applied if the earliest allocation your dealer has is like in November? You wouldn't be able to take delivery until end of December/beginning January. So wouldn't the credit have already past the 60 day limit?

Not at all. It will help your case a lot if you list the invoice prices rather than simply ask for the discount though. Listing the actually invoice price shows that you are an informed buyer.

Actually you'll have to pay California sales tax when you register the car at the DMV or we would all be doing this.

They let you combine the innovative and the unforgettable test drive? You should jump on this deal ASAP cause the test drive is good for 60 days and the innovative ends September 30 or so

I'm basically emailing a lot of dealers, both in state and out of state, to see if any are willing to do the deal and combine credits.

I have emailed around 15 dealers, including greater Cali, Arizona, and Idaho. Four have come back with no or $1k off MSRP at best. One said asking for approval from GSM.

There doesn't appear to be a need for deeper discounts yet.

Wow, I didn't believe you, so I checked a bit more closely. Apparently all states do this, I suppose to prevent other states from stealing business with lower tax rates. What a load of malarkey. What's the point even of having state-based sales tax if they maneuver around people like this?

In either case, it's still worth while if a CA dealer won't give you MSRP or below.

No state is going to give up their sales tax.

What if you buy and register at some state where you can obtain an address (friends/family), and then move the car at a later date to your own state with a simple registration?

You need a DE drivers license to buy a car in Delaware (no sales tax). To get a D/L you will need to show proof of residence.

With the current demand around the west coast and the limited amount of M3's available it would seem unrealistic to get to this number currently. There seem to be more M4's around but even then I would be surprised if you could get them this low for the first year.

They've got that covered too. Once you register in your home state you will then pay taxes on the vehicle on some version of market value given the mileage and year.
