Thoughts in buying m3 now vs leasing m4
Hello guys,
I've found a e92 m3 that I want to potentially buy. Loaded clean 41k miles $45k warranty expired so I would purchase 3rd party + 2k (carmax) after NYC taxes and other fees in looking at $$ 53-54 k Or should I just f it and lease the m4 ? I know in all honesty I would eventually move on to a used m4 in 5-7 years if I bought the e92. If I lease the m4 and like it I would buy it after lease. Or just finance a 2018 m4 model if it's worth the upgrade. Is this a right move? And if it is. Do you think better lease deals are to be had come December time? |

Dont think anyone on a message board can tell you whether buying the old M3 or buying/leasing the current M3/4 is the right move or not. You need to decide what you want and how much you want to spend.

I can relate to your dilemma. I just recently purchased an 08 M3 with 36,000 miles on it after seriously considering leasing an M4. The best lease deal I got was $975 a month for 36 mo./10k yr after I put $6k down (GA car tax sucks). This was a selling price of around $73k, sticker was $77,300 and the money factor was not inflated with 58% residual
Do I think a better lease deal will happen in December? No, I do not. These cars are selling very well. The dealer I was working with was in a small town in a neighboring state. In a year you may see residuals at 62%. I paid $35,000 for my M3 and will hold onto it for 2-3 years and either get a used M4 or a new M2, once they are released. |

I got it down to 860 per month without taxes and other fees rolled in I would be paying about 4.5 k if I rolled it it it would be high 9XX which is doable but I wanna get the best price I can get.

Don't know guys I am just confused as I finally have the opportunity to get myself in a M I just want to make sure I love it. In crossing my fingers if I get the m4 I'll be forever content and won't buy another for 10+ years where as the e 92 I would likely switch 5-7 if not sooner. |

That's $36k in payments over 3 years - you could have bought another car with that kind of money. Instead you are just renting one and paying it down for the next guy.

i had the same question over the past week or two and here is why i proceeded E90:
-last of the V8's -love the sound -personality/character is more of my liking -own vs. lease -PFI vs. DI - no carbon build up (sick of this topic from RS4 and N55) -relatively reliable except rod bearing issue (will monitor oil) -S55 is brand brand new - expect first year production issues. Not interested in a 320i loaner all the time. If price is the only consideration then do EURO delivery for F80. For a bare bones F80 M3, i was quoted ~$880/mo including taxes + $1800 due at signing. 3yrs/10k miles. Last edited by drexplode; 08-28-2014 at 11:10 AM.. |

If that is the case, why not get an E46 or even E36 for a couple of years (or any other cheaper car) till you get the M4 that you really want? |

If you're gonna progress to a used F8X car anyway, just wait and save your money until then.

Or just get the e92 call it a day and upgrade later but still essentially dishing out the same money and perpetually buying the cycle of newish used cars |

The truth is I'll probably be a life time switcher in hopes of finding something I will want to keep for a long time.
I always wanted a 46 until the 92 came out and when the 92 was around that's all I wanted. now that I can put myself in one I'm thinking should I just get the newer one? Although I do agree with the sentiment of the last of the v8 I test drove it and it was great but I'm sure I would love the m4 too. |

Sounds like you don't really want a e9x M3 but you just want to get into an M car. I actually had the same dilemma a couple months back when my 335 lease was coming up. I ended up buying my e93 M3 over leasing the f8x because I decided I would like to keep the e93 for many many years. Plus, to lease a f8x, it would've costed over $40k in 3 short years so it was not worth it to me.
I think the best option for you is to finance the f80 and keep it for 7-8 years. Doesn't make sense to buy a e9x now only to sell it for a f8x later on if you're set on the f8x from the start.

But really what matters is your monthly budget. You could almost own the e90 after 4-5 years of the same monthly payment if the lease I would imagine. If you lease an f80 you could buy it and have the same payment for a total of like 8 years or pay more during the last 3 if you did a 6 year overall. Or you could lease again, netting you a newer f80 (maybe lci if you're lucky) and perpetual payments but you always get warranty and maintenance for free. I bought my e92 and when it comes time I will consider the perpetual leading option as it's really low hassle when it comes to the maintenance and you always have a new car. That can be worth the extra money depending on the person. I would try to drive both honestly. |

Take this for what it's worth, but I just purchased an '11 E92 with 16.3k miles on it, fully loaded, extremely clean, for $48.3k from a dealership in NJ. Warranty is good until June of next year. There are really good deals out there if you look hard enough.
