CF wrapping silver DCT shifter trim?

So as many of us have found out, the silver portion of the DCT shifter is prone to scratches. I have some spare 3M DI-NOC CF vinyl laying around and really would like to attempt to wrap the silver portion of the shift knob. Has anyone removed or disassembled the knob itself? Is it possible to take the black piece off without damaging it?

Never thought of doing this but interested if anyone has.

And I believe removing the knob is like the e46 smg way, pull hard and dont bust ur self in the face... Dont take my word on that though. And fwiw, you could probably wrap it without taking it off. Patenience and a sharp knife would do the trick I think.

Removes pretty easily. Actually takes less force than you'd think.

How well does the 3M carbon fiber wrap match the real carbon fiber in the interior of the M3?

its pretty close, but not exact. If pieces are separate, its hard to tell, if they are close together, you can tell.... yes, yes i know my steering wheel trim is in the opposite direction

Yeah that looks like it's pretty close. The Di-Noc seems shinier, though, but that's not a big deal.

I think wrapping the shifter and the steering wheel would make it look awesome

My steering wheel trim is wrapped with Di-noc. I don't think it's that close...3M Di-noc has a "shimmer" to it...hard to describe and you'd have to see with the naked eye.
