Keep Euro Delivery plate

Sorry if this question is done to death, but a quick search of the forum didn't immediately yield results.

Do we get to keep our plates from our Euro Delivery? One of the main reasons I'm doing a Euro delivery is to christen the car on its home soil so I'd like to keep it as a momento.

That is, you have to leave the plates on the car at drop-off in europe, and hopefully at least one will still be on when you take delivery.

I left my last euro plate on in the US until my new plates came in and then I swapped out. I've noticed that some people here in Cali will put their US plate over the euro plate and leave both on.

BTW, don't forget to take your triangle and medkit!

Just ask when you go to drop the car off for transport, ask if they can note in the records that you want to keep the EU plates. I dropped mine off in Munich last week and the kind lady, said it had already been noted and that note will be placed in the car. But time will tell when it arrives stateside next month

Don't ED cars come with those? I thought I read that somewhere.

When I did my trip and dropped it off she put the note in my car but only one made it back.

But it seems that a couple of people gotten both back in my group, the rest should be back next week so we will find out if the got both back soon.

But I found a website that can re-produce them and it is made in Germany, so I ordered a new front plate and the sticker for it and it turned out pretty good.

Yup, ED cars come with a warning triangle and medkit (as they're required by law in Europe but not the US), however if you don't take them out of the car at euro drop-off they have a way of disappearing prior to US delivery. So the SOP is to take them out of the car at Euro drop-off and reinstall on US delivery.

As to the plates, if you take them off the car at Euro drop-off the agency will likely not accept the car and, even if they do, your car won't make it past customs since it's been driven in the EU. So nothing is stopping you from taking them, you just likely won't see your again

My E93 showed up in the US with the rear plate still attached which seems to be the norm.

Luck of the draw according to my dealer. Mine said they've never had one where they went missing.. But it's still not a guarantee

No. I actually just noticed I have the warning triangle brackets and a pair of running shoes I left in the trunk.

Both my plates were still on the car when it arrived at dealer but there is a lot less scrutiny of Canadian ED cars.

Yeah with the e9x there's a pen in the owners manual and those had way of disappearing as well
