Extend Warranty on your M,

Like to find out ...

1) Did you purchased the Extended Warranty (7 years/100,000 miles) on your new M3/M4
2) How much did you pay for ?
3) What is the deductible limit, $50 or $250 ?
3) Is that through BMW, through dealer or independent company ?

Thanks for your response !

1) Planning to, but you don't have to do it right away.
2) My quotes so far have been all over the place, some low some high. I've seen others post here with what feel like some pretty low numbers when taking $200 deductibles.
3) All my quotes have been 0. The difference between the 0 and 200 for me was negligible, but I haven't done any negotiation yet. Just been asking around to different dealerships atm.
4) Far as I understood, those are outside BMW NA. Dealers might use different companies depending on who you get. Maintenance is BMW though.

All free to correct me if I've gotten something different from their experience!

1) Don't plan on it, as I plan on doing mods that will void the warranty on parts that I would care to have an extended warranty on.

For example, at some point, I plan on a tune, either a reflash, or the JB4. That will void the warranty on engine related issues, and that's the biggest thing I would want to have an extended warranty on.

Does the price go up the longer you wait to purchase the extended warranty - or is it pretty consistent all the way through standard 4/50K?

That's a great question.. It sounds like there's plenty of room for negotiation with the dealers either way.

Price goes up drastically the closer you get to the original expiration. Reason for this is if you purchase it at delivery, your paying for the first four years/50,000 miles when it is not needed as the standard warrenty covers everything. So if you buy a 7 year, whatever mileage, your paying for an entire seven years. If you pick it up at the end of the original warranty, BMW only collects three years worth of payments. It's that old saying, pay me now or pay me later.

Update

for the cost of extended warranty through BMW, not through dealer or independent company

The price range for 7yr/70,000 with $50 ded (each claim)

For "platinum" is $7200 (high) to $5000 (low)
For "Gold" is $6000 (high) to $4500 (low)

Anyone has better price ??

Isn't there another level, 'power train plus?' Were you quoted on that by chance? Or is there a reason you're not interested in that plan?

Just get rid of it before the original warranty expires

THIS! Wow, you guys actually keep your cars that long? I never ever even get close to the original warranty expiring before trading in the car. At a couple of grand for extended warranty, I rather use that money towards the purchase of another new M for a full 4yr/50k warranty along with hopefully still available by then, 4 yr maintenance plan...

Rather ironic that your screenname is 'BurnMeWallet'.

I keep cars about 8-12 years.

You'd probably save a lot more money if you kept the cars longer and traded up for newer models less often. More money for retirement, IRA's, ect... or maybe that's not your focus as your name would suggest.

I kept my C6 over 8 years and plan to keep the F80 for about as long. I buy new, pay cash, and keep cars for a long time.

I plan to pass on the extended warranty.

Haha, I wouldnt be able to do it guys! I probably would kill myself if I have to drive the same car for 5 years no matter how nice it is. Its a disease that I have, I like new technology, new looks, style, etc...
