Z4MC footwell - smaller than the non-Ms?

I got into the Z4C this morning wearing my Timberland boots and immediately stepped on the gas and clutch together. Sure, I wear a size 15 shoe, but it was never an issue with my roadster. Is the transmission tunnel bigger on the Ms? Are the pedals more closely spaced?

I don't see how the footwells could be any different...

The transmission tunnel is bigger on the M models.
They use a different/larger tranny than the non M's. Beefier to handle the added horsepower although ESS proved the non M tranny will hold up just fine to the power levels.

Actually I think the pedals on my M Coupe are set up for perfect heel-toe shifting. Some might think it's too close, but for me I have never driven a car with a more perfect set-up even in its stock form.

If you pressed the accelerator and clutch at the same time, I am making the assumption you mashed the brake pedal too and you must have a HUGE foot!

I haven't measured, but it is definitely tight in that footwell. I don't think the size (length) of the shoe is the issue (I wear a 12 or 13), it's the width which causes a problem. I have never tried to wear boots in my MC, but when I wear dress shoes (Kenneth Cole) which tend to have a wide sole, I sometimes clip an unintended pedal here and there. I have gotten to the point where I actually have certain shoes which I wear when I drive the MC. This is not a problem since it's my second or "fun" car which I mainly use for weekends or errands.

They're long but not super wide. I drove the car home wearing Timberland driving shoes with no trouble, hence my surprise that my slightly larger waterproof half-height boots were scraping the gas and clutch. I just checked against my Z4 roadster and the same shoes are fine in that.

No big deal - I had a similar issue with my Porsches, but the other direction. The coupes had plenty of footroom, but the targa was tight due to the extra chassis reinforcement.

Are you sure about that?
I thought it was the same 6sp as the si, because of the narrow tunnel.

I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that the M's had different trannies from the non M's.

Both are listed as "GS6-37BZ/DZ"
they do have different part #s, which I suspect is the different gearing

Most true sport cars have pedals set up close together especially between the brake and accelerator pedal for ease in heel-toeing. I make a habit of placing my left foot on the dead pedal when it's not in use which helps in bracing my body during spirited driving. I drive every day like I'm on the track except for not driving at track speeds. It makes my technique become second nature when I actually hit the track. I may not look as cool as those who drive the one-handed gangsta lean method, but if I wanted to drive that sort of car, I would be on the Cadillac forum.
