read the fine print. insurance does not cover "cosmetic damage" there has to be an issue caused by the wheel and/or tire to have them replaced. I bought this insurance as well on that thought but once I got home and read it says that.
so cracked wheels, bent wheels, flat tires, etc etc |

I have this insurance. Hit a pot hole in Austin, TX and bent a rear rim. I wanted the insurance to cover repairing the rim (about $150), but they replaced the rim instead ($700). Good insurance.

I was quoted $1800, then when I refused it, the price magically went down to $1300. I still refused it. My last M3, I spent $20 on a patch once. That was the only problem I had (besides curbing the rims twice... which is not covered). Knocking on wood.

if it covers cosmetic...that would be good; that seems more likely to happen if being super cautious, which i like to think i am, but you never know. sXXX happens. I need to look further at the detail - he just gave me a brochure that was pretty general.
The prices they quote are such bogus. |

I never get why people pay for this insurance. In the past I've never had a tire issue that couldn't simply be patched FOR FREE by Discount Tire, and I've never had wheel damage from any of those flats I had repaired. Maybe I'm just lucky? I do see tons of people on these forums saying it's worth it, but I just don't see how.
Not saying people shouldn't do as every circumstance/history is different...I just don't personally see how it's worth it to me. |

I happened to have it for my e92 M3 and had 3 tires replaced no charge. It more than paid for itself. Now, if I had not had any tires damaged by a nail/screw, and was not able to take advantage of the protection, then I would probably be on your side of the fence...and be questioning it's usefulness. I've been driving for more years than I care to admit and have only had one tire failure (and it was a track issue and installed improperly) and no rim issues. I am wiling to self-insure the risk of a tire/rim issue and forgo the insurance.
I did get it on my wife's X3, because it was my first experience with run flats and the dealer put the press on me (I caved in a moment of weakness thinking about my wife hitting potholes). No claims in the 3 years, so on firmed to me I'm better off self insuring. |
