I'm a real BMW owner!!

I've done plenty of work on my car in the three years I've owned it. All mods and maintenance this far, till today. I got in my car after work, as the window closed after the door shut, the window regulator broke and the window fell down. I had to laugh. I thought to myself "yup, your a real BMW owner now." Ordered the oem piece for $130 ,not bad. Since it happened at work i just parked it inside (I work at a garage) and took my boss' Audi S4 home. Part will be there by 9:00 tomorrow morning and I'll back in the 1. Although the V8 is a nice touch, sounds great.

This sounds more like a VW thread.

I've done this replacement myself.. You'll get it done easy.. Stupid to have such problems for a car that's only a few years old but replace it and keep going

It's amazing to me that after all these years, BMW still can't seem to figure out the dark art of engineering window regulators.

When I got them, my old E34 525i was 1 for 4 on functional windows and my 540i was slightly better at 2 for 4. So chances are it'll happen to most E82 owners eventually.

My e46 coupe is 14 years old with no issues. amazing considering the Midwest winters with the car iced up. Many times the window won't adjust down to open the door in the winter because it's frozen. Nevertheless the regulators still work. Nine years on my e90 sedan with no issues. almost 2 on my e82. Looking for some wood to knock on.

Haha! I totally had a busted window regulator in my Passat that caused my window to fall into the door. What a pain in the ass.

Happened to me

Lookup window reset procedure

AND get a Plumbler style monkey wrench for those Star shaped bolts that are on the inner side ( facing the door metal)

Be careful wrap areas and wrench in towels to not dent the door.

if the motor stops working. Simply disconnect it reconnect it close the car lock and it should reset

Thanks, I did it yesterday, wan't too bad. I used the tool (crescent shaped wrench) that came with my coil overs to loosen those star bolts, worked well. Did take a few times adjusting it to get the seal at the top just right when the door closes.
