Dealer Pricing Strategy
Hi - new member here and hopeful new M3 owner. I've been looking for an E90 3 for a few months now, trying to wait for the perfect car. I finally found one that was at a dealer, but it was priced a bit too high - 2011 with 30k miles w/ clean carfax.
It was originally priced at $50k and then reduced to $49k. It went down to $48k and after two weeks, they dropped it down to $43k. I'm wondering if the dramatic price decrease is a red flag or if it's just normal dealer pricing strategy. It appears that they've had the car since early May which would mean they've held the car for over 60 days. Thoughts? Appreciate any feedback. |

They just want to move the unit out of there and keep lowering the price until someone bites. Dealer has to pay for inventory costs and whatever money they loaned to get the car as well. Its a liability they want gone basically.
Go in and offer $38k, if they say no just walk away. They will pull you back immediately and start negotiating. Hold ur ground and 99% of the time you win. |

No, I had assumed that it was at their listed price. I didn't mention above that it was a CPO as well so it was a really good price imo since it was way cheaper than most cars except for 2008s with 70k+ miles and that was assigning no value to the cpo.
I called the previous night to inquire and told them I could turn around the next day so I assumed if it was lower, they would've contacted me. I may be overestimating their internal communication though... Last edited by ffswhyme; 07-11-2014 at 08:30 AM.. Reason: forgot to mention cpo |

when it gets to the point the price is that low on what seems to be a great car you cannot hesitate. when that dealer car was $43k, you needed to walk in, offer $40 and make it happen.
