I doubt the the DCT is available on the 335i. I think it's a misprint. I've Just checked the BMW international site and sites from other countries and there is no mention of the DCT for the 335i. I doubt Australia would be the first place to get it.

Damn, another joy stopper

Conflicting info here...I and I assume many others will be hoping it does happen !!!

These sorts of mechanical features/upgrades usually do have a tendency to 'pass down' and hopefully the DCT does find its way into future 135i's

Maybe it might feature on a 1 series tii or M1 variant :iono:

BMW offered SMG on non M E46 coupes a couple of years back. Of course it wasn't the full SMGII version that was installed in the M3, but it was SMG nevertheless.

I have full faith DCT will be offered on the 335i. Whether it filters down to the 135i......anything is possible, but I doubt it will happen as I'm sure BMW has already realised the 135i is taking sales away from the 335i!

Copy and paste from an email i sent to BMW:

Good Morning Raj

Thank you for your email.

I have spoken to our product manager regarding your query and I can advise that this new gearbox can be ordered for September production on 335i Coupe.

Kind Regards

Subject: Incorrect information on the 3 series coupe price list

Hi,

The 335 is listed with the option of fitting a “7-speed sports automatic transmission with double-clutch
and gearshift paddles”. I believe this only applies to m3 ? Can you please confirm ?

For your reference, the link is : http://bmw.com.au/common_content/mod...O%20JULY08.pdf

Cheers

Raj

I still don't believe it. Why would Australia be the first to get this. I can't find any reference to DCT on the 335i on any other BMW website around the world.

I think everyone would get it post from September production. You are not seeing it on the international website at the moment because it's not in production yet.

Man you are a Doubting Thomas.

BM seems particularly at keeping their websites updated, so I'd trust them less than I would someone named Clarisse! (Can you still hear the screams????)

Sometimes it can be as simple as our stupid Govt. has done this tax thing which has meant BMW Aust had to update it's pricing lists. Possibly by doing so it meant one of two things. Either they are the first country to update their website/price lists, or to save money on design and printing (highly likely) they have included a future option on the price list now, knowing it is still a little off in the future. If they have BMW HQs blessing, it's no sweat and helps with sales as well.

Since my day job is marketing and I do similar timing things all the time, I'm guessing I'm probably not that wrong either

I for one am hoping that you are not that wrong either

I'm confident also as I've stated earlier that once fitted to the 335i as standard, it's only a matter of time till it will be introduced or offered as an option on the similarily engined 135i...albeit with a price premium to pay...

Here's hoping it'll be available on '09-'10 135i's

The 335i vert and 335i can now be ordered with the new box. Delivery in about 3 months. It is a $4000 option according to my local dealer. The 135 may get the box in about 18 months but no promises. Due to the lux tax (if/when) and other changes to the box the option will be closer to $7000 on an M3.

Long live the manual!

Woohoo on the possible/eventual availability

Boohoo on the extra pricing

Ah well, can't have something for nothing, wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the LCT increase

Still by the time I'm ready to get one, if it's there, I want it, no doubts...

Zuzu, I'm sure you'll have plenty of takers for your beautiful vert

I love it in my GTI as well. But I just leave it in D - I almost never put it in S or use the paddles.

I'm tempted to put a deposit down now for the 135i with DCT - and wait for it to come out.

+ 1

So am I, but it has to be confirmed first before I act

If it was a definite 100% fact right now, I'd be putting money down and playing the waiting game for sure...:drinking:

I'd just have to hang around here with all you guys for the next 12+ months to try and calm down my anxiety

DCT looks like a very popular choice

If it is indeed released for the 1er, I can see a vast change in the auto vs manual preference comparisons/numbers of ownership for each - might start swinging over to the majority owning 'automated manuals' for this car
