Well at least you have some experience of the awful cars now. My favorite one ever is my parents Citroens. I swear those are the cars to buy, if you want some perspective in this shit. I have no idea why they always bought them, since nothing ever worked, they look like shit, drive like shit, and one has to really work for it to find any power in them. My audi loves to text for me. Unfortunately it's a total pervert, so people get a lot of innuendos not meant to them. And before I again end up to the OT, I'll just add that I don't think Tony will jump in the end. He's been great enthusiast as long as I can remember.

My intention was not to turn the thread into a lease vs buy debate. Yes I understand you can buy the car at the end of the lease or end a lease early, but doing so comes at a cost. |

Tony,
I imagine your best option is to have your dealer give you a quote on your car in it's current condition for trade-in. Figure out the trade-in value minus what your loan payoff is. Remember that by purchasing your loan, you don't pay a hand-in fee. Calculate that out. Remember that by trading in the car on the new m3, you MAY not pay tax on the amount of the trade-in value (that's how it is in PA). Calculate that in. Now figure out the cost of whatever other options you are considering: For example a $5k purchase of a beater vehicle is going to cost you sales tax, registration fees, etc. that you will never recoup. Just saying, may truly be the best option to buy out your lease. |

I am astonished that Tony's dealer is not figuring out a solution for him on this. Unless they want to talk him into an M5...
Really glad that I love my 335 so much. I would be disappointed but could survive another year with it.

Just call every dealer around you (within a 1000 miles and see what launch cars are out there still up for grabs. That's what I did. The dealer is even courtesy delivering it to the dealer right down the street from me. Super easy. If there is a will there is a way. Depends on how bad you want it. Just make it happen.

I was in a similar position as Tony. My lease on my S4 was up this July. My M4 (that I've been waiting for since even before I had the S4, 3 years ago) is scheduled to arrive in July and I was getting worked up worrying that it may not arrive in time. I also was 5k miles over the mileage allotment on the S4 so a lease return was out of the question and I also would have to do the 35k mi service soon which I wanted to avoid. Plus I wasn't convinced that I was thoroughly going to love the M4 based on all the decisions that BMW has made. Still hopeful that BMW will deliver though.
So instead I sold my car S4 to a dealer, pocketed $5k in equity (would have been $8k if I sold it to a private party) and bought a RS5 instead. I now have a limited production car that is one of the last of breed NA V8s and it revs to 8.5k rpm with a mean sounding exhaust and has a sexy as fck paint job that gets tons of compliments everywhere I go. If the M4 that arrives in July isn't as great as I hoped for, then I keep the RS5 and I'll be more than happy. If I do want to switch to the M4 as I plan to, since the RS5 is limited production (like the 1 series M) there are RS5s going retail for more than $100k right now...Now I fully expect to lose some money if I do sell the RS5 for the M4 but I don't mind cuz the RS5 is a BEAST which gives me a BIG smile every time I fire her up. If you're impatient (like me) why not treat yourself to something ridiculous for a few months and ease your mind about getting the M4 right this minute. |

Ok, high school guidance counsellors. But what do they know? Anyway, cool. Now you'll be part of the in crowd and get to go to all the cool parties and the girls will all like you. Just like if you took up smoking or pot. |

What a relief. Very successful intervention Had you actually jumped ship Tony it may have caused me to doubt my YMB decision. Initially I let some of the many YMB nay sayers on here steer me away but I have made my way back and i'm sticking with that color decision.
Now as soon as I get out of work I'm headed down to Sears to pick up that YMB shop vac I had my eye on to tide me over till the M3 gets here. |
