Comparing the lines of a 3GT to a 4-series is a bit of apples-to-oranges.

So is this, but it might be telling. The trunk lines of the A5 and A5 Sportback are exactly the same, even though the latter is a hatchback.

Point being, if Audi saw fit to make the lines the same for different trunk mechanisms, then one can argue that BMW could follow suit.

M3 gets my vote:

1. Better name
2. Shorter overhangs
3. Cheaper

For the purposes of our bet, a hatchback will be defined as a vehicle whose rear window is hinged or otherwise articulated. Agree?

I can't fault that analysis. You should have the inside track for the win here.

And to sweeten the deal, M630, if it turns out to not be a hatch, I'll change my avatar to a picture of your choosing (providing it meets forum guidelines) for a week. If the 4GC does turn out to be a hatch, you'll rock an avatar of my choosing.

What do you say?

I do feel bad with the wager since it was your find that proved it out, and unless the spy pix is not the actual mule, I think we'd agree it is the same trunk design as the f30 and can't be a hatchback..but I'll leave it to you to say if we should play

What do you say?
Whatever u like!

...ofcourse u understand by now I'm waiting for this vehicle and am pretty sure in the direction, since I'm their target market and will pay a premium for design exclusivity over practicality, and I certainly DONT want or need a hatch

Ill leave you and mkoesel to decide on the terms of your wager. But you and I should do the friendly avatar bet. Is it a deal?

Oh, no need to feel bad at all. This is simply a way of putting our money where our mouths are, as they say. It's all in fun and since it's for a good cause there are no losers.

So we have a bet then?

Last chance to back out, m630!

Here's what Autobild has to say:

Quote:
The 4 Series Gran Coupe is said to get a tailgate.

As a competitor to the Audi A5 Sportback...
Though interestingly in the same article, they contradict themselves and call out a conventional trunk.

The mystery deepens! The truth will be revealed as Geneva 2014 approaches.

Dilemma!! Should I buy an M3 or M4?

Global Crisis! Excessive rattles on my BMW

HELP ME! Nuclear meltdown!!!1! Dealer built my car with the wrong trim!

FAIL of catastrophic proportions!! BMW battery died and I can't open the trunk to get my favorite scarf and gloves!

One of our spy photographers told me he's seen the trunk open and that it's a hatch opening.

But likely a moot point since as of now, no M4 Gran Coupe has been given the greenlight, due to budget reasons.

I suppose that settles that.

I don't think he's going to come back other than to claim victory if it turns out he's right, despite never confirming the bet.

Anyone want bet on that?

It will be at least two years before we see an M4GC. BMW is waiting to see how well the 4GC sells before committing to an //M version. Even if the 4GC turns out to be a hatchback, that doesn't necessarily mean the M4GC has to be a hatchback.

Wat.

Can you point to one example where the ///M version was not based on the form factor of its non-M namesake?

Hi all, sorry have been away for a bit. I just dont see the need to wager to be honest as its not that important to me, but I'll just claim the victory though once we see the car in Geneva.

I still believe it will be a normal trunk because I will probably not buy it if it has a hatch, but lets see how it turns out

Really? Then why did you originally respond to my offer for a wager with:

"....glad to, ive seen the pix evidence to prove it and you've provided it to do so!"

?

Oh? But it was bothering you enough to drop into this thread just to take a shot at myself and others ("guys" you said) for referring to it as a hatchback. I have to say, it sounds to as if you've opted not to stand behind your original demonstrably aggressive campaign to quash all discussion about the possibility of five doors.

Claim the victory for a bet which you refuse to acknowledge?
