Nice video, thanks!
Had they started with the M3 first, wouldn't have been any video comparison, as the M3 would have pulled away There were countless of time when M3 was almost pushing from behind the RS5...the images in the rear view mirror speak for themselves.

I think that was a stupid comparison...
I know, lets just have one car follow the other and that will REALLY tell us whose faster....

AutoCar has not made a review "worth giving a sh*t" since forever.
All of their reviews are complete jokes. GT2 completely killing the ZR-1 in a drag race. Yeah, right!

Uh. Why wouldn't a GT2 beat up on the ZR-1 in a drag race. I'd personally be stunned if the ZR-1 was even close.

Quote:
GT2 != GT2 RS GT2 makes 530 HP (the one that was compared by AutoCar), RWD, turbocharged, 6 speed manual. They did a 1 mile drag race and ZR-1 never could catch the GT2, which is ridiculous and laughible. Same type of race done with 4 cars by MotorTrend showed GT2 and GTR fell by way side past the 1/4 mile and the race become a dead heat between the Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and ZR-1.

The GT2 weighs 3300 lbs and hangs it engine over the rear wheels. In a standing start race against a 3350lb ZR-1, done on shoddy pavement, the results are entirely expected.
In the Motor Trend test (done on smoother and stickier pavement) the ZR-1 gets off the line better and is able to put much more of its power down through the first 2 gears. That is the difference.

I think the Autocar review did what it set out to do, take a bang up to date RS5 and see if it could leave behind and tweaked near end of life design M3, which it couldn’t.
M3 owners should take pleasure in knowing their cars can still cut it with the new boys. |

Ridiculous and laughable also because the ZR-1 operator (you certainly couldnt call him a driver) was pathetic. They wanted the ZR-1 to lose because it smokes practically all of Europe's iconic cars.

And how the hell would you know if the pavement was stickier than that which was used for the Autocar test?

They should have swaped ends half way, put the M3 up front and then see the outcome, but I stand by it proving the M3 is still brilliant, three years on.

How much will the RS5 cost?
I feel like this car is a nice alternative if you want something more exclusive. The only other option is a GT-R for the given price and its a lot harsher riding and the maintenance is ridiculous. This may be on my radar in a year or so. Last edited by CSanto; 11-05-2010 at 11:10 AM.. |
