AND a little more visual flair in the exterior, then yes, it would be quite awesome.

Regardless, having now driven both the 228i and M235i (both xDrive), this car is a pretty decent drive. The steering isn't dead like we've had before in the F30 chassis and it's 100x better in every way over the 320. The M235i has pretty good pickup and sounds good (like an S3/GolfR). At 41-42k MSRP 228i, you have nav, comfort access, heated seats/wheel, satellite radio and a moonroof. So after rebates/negotiating this is a sub 40k car. It'll sell. |

It's no secret that MINI is a troubled brand with sales falling off the proverbial cliff and fairly decent but stale product Personally, I like this new BMW because if everyone here hates with a rabid passion so then it must be a car worth taking a closer look into.

What a missed opportunity. The consensus by BMW fans and the press is that this car is a mediocre product that exists solely to fill the A3/CLA segment.
The only upside is that the badge chasers will generally get into this rather than a plain white leatherette 320i.

Missed opportunity for bmw. I feel like they could have made this car really cool but it just looks awful and doesn't look fun to drive. I would take a manual golf r all day

If the 21st century is lame duck styling and uninspiring dynamics I don't want a 21st century car.

And yes, you will need to move away from your Nokia too and learn to use touch screens. All I see is a nicely looking small gran coupe (similar to what Audi introduced with A3 many years ago, since they have a calendar on the wall) with an aggressive enough engine and corresponding optics. If you were expecting another E-series design, too bad.

The BMW M owners are probably more poseurs than the "Badge chasing" 320i owners with leatherette. I bet the later are more enthusiasts than the former. And having driven a F30 320i a few years back, I found it to be a fun car and more true to its roots than any other more powerful F30 3er of the time. Light on its feet, practical and it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than the other way around. Let's stop the personal attacks against a group of owners that some here perceive here to be in it just for the badge. In other words, get off your proverbial high horses!

Also, the Haldex in the RS3 can be permanently locked up on demand (when dynamic Quattro is selected in the driveselect) for a constant 50-50 split. While it is not a true Torsen Quattro, it still makes for an entertaining drive.

Simply because there's demand for a four-door that's smaller than a current 3 series. My issue with the car is what's on offer for the msrp. It's essentially a fwd/awd, hot hatch with a turbo 4. I agree with the sentiment that one can get a gti, golf r, civic type r, wrx, the Hyundai hot hatch (forget the name) or a used focus rs, for much less coin. Maybe they're less refined, but often, those interested in this segment aren't as focused on that. What is the 2gc offering for the higher msrp that can't be had for much less from a competing make/model?
