Tire Replacement Suggestions?
So we hit 40k already in our 2014 X5 on stock Pirelli Scorpion Runflats. They still have pretty decent tread left at 6/32 and 5/32 in some spots. One of the rear got a big, big nail stuck right in the middle. I'm not sure I want to get it patched at this point.
Anyone else replace their stock runflats with non runflats? What did you replace it with and any ride improvement? I'm thinking either going OE runflats again or with Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 (except they're more passenger-like tires). There's one thread saying it's pretty good as an all-season. -john

Similar
Similar situation with the same Perilii stock RFTs on my 2015 X5 35d at around 38k. I replaced them with the all season Michelin Premier LTX non-RFTs. I thought the original tires were quiet but the new ones are even better. I ran them through the last winter in Michigan and they handled the snow quite well. I have about 20k on them now (I drive across the state a lot) and they are wearing very well. I should hit the 60k mileage mark as advertised for the tires. Yes, I have the spare tire option with BMW X5

Who has replaced their MSport 20" tires? If so which ones did you go with - I need to start thinking about the idea, probably before December when the rainy season starts. I am thinking about going with non-run flats if that means a savings of $300 or more.

Based on what I have seen on this and other BMW forums I think the most popular replacement tire is continental DWS06 with very good reviews. This is the route I will go once my current Dunlops RFT goes.

I recently got them on my 22" wheels because of their great reviews, and I'm very happy with them so far. Though brand new, I've already tested them in the city and highway both in wet and dry conditions. They have phenomenal comfort and grip, and they are quiet as well .

I went through the same exercise a few months back, I opted for go-flats. Went with Conti DWS-06's...couldn't be happier with the ride. I'm lowered on ACS springs/links.

I was really close on pulling the trigger on the DWS06 but we decided to go back with the stock RFT all over again lol. They have a pretty great tread life. Not having a spare and then running non-RFTs were just too much to risk on a family hauler SUV. I went nonrft on my m3 and old 335 and it was fine but then again, those were just me driving so I don't mind possible inconveniences The other alternative runflat tires I was looking at were the Michelin Latitude RFTs. They didn't review as well. And then there's the horrible Bridgestone Dueler ones.

I understand your reasoning for the RFTs. I have been doing the 22" all year round since 2014, so for me, I needed something that would just handle in all conditions. It's usually just me driving so that's why I can bare the inconveniences like you mentioned regarding your m3 and 335. Honestly, don't compromise ever on your tires. If they are solid, stick with them. I was quite happy with the Delinte D8s for the past 2 years until recently when they started to hydroplane in heavy rain. I looked for the best, which is why I chose the DWS 06. They appear aggressive, and they handle very well. I can't wait to test them in the snow in winter later on.

I have the DWS 06 and like them but don't love them. I like their LX20s more.
The beef with the original DWS was soft sidewalls. That is better on the 06. But the overall traction seems worse to me that the original. Not as sticky and confident on hard corners and less traction in the snow. Still a good tire and a improvement over most of the runflats, just a little disappointing for me. Yes, my first post here. I was a regular on bimmerfest. |

I still have my RFT Pirelli's at home, I'll throw a tape on them and measure this weekend. To the eye, the Conti's seem to be the same. I know some had complained about the less 'blocky' look, more curved...but I like the look of the tires. Agree with the above, the tread pattern seemed odd to me at first, but is growing on me.
