Omfg

Trying my best to run the car in nicely but I am up to 600 miles and my daughter ( a 10 year old speed freak!!!lol) really wanted to try sport mode and the auto box in sport too - omfg this car can shift and I didn't even properly floor it - makes my old 325d feel really quite slow by comparison and thing flew! - this car realy is going to be amazing once it loosens up !!!

At 76 miles in my 335D, delivered Friday and guests for the weekend so not put the miles on it yet. Even coming from a C350CDI and not having taken it over 3000 RPM (but have tried it in sport mode) I am already quite impressed by the sheer torque available and the V8 like growl, so can't wait to extend it. Although even a quick squirt through the gears to 3000 RPM, quickly puts you over the legal limit!

Need it run in and then squirt up a long slip road!

Yes the 335D is a very quick diesel saloon/estate. Yes it has phenomenal economy for a quick car. But no it really doesn't sound like a V8 except for the artificial noise coming out of the speakers. If that offends then frankly tough.

Aw diddums...did the nasty petrol engine driver upset you?

Not really.. just happy to point out that the "V8 growl" is artificial. Still if making "broom broom" noises to mask the real sound is what makes you happy...

You have to resort to insults again. Quite pathetic. I dare you to look through your reply history and count up how many times you've "reminded" people about their terrible choice in buying a diesel or xdrive?

If you have nothing positive to say, don't.

Hmm, did you have a late night or are you just always a miserable, humourless grumpy bugger?

I'm pretty certain I've never called it a "terrible choice" nor have I ever slated anyone for their choice of car or engine. In fact I have praised both the 335D and 330D for their performance and economy on several occasions. I have even joked on a number of occaisions about how poor the petrol economy is by comparison. What I am more than happy to do though is have light hearted and realistic banter about the various cars/engines and to "uphold the honour" of petrol in the face of probably 90% of the forum driving diesel. If you find that offensive or consider it as hurling insults then, well frankly, that is your problem.

Enjoy your day, I know I will.

Actually I'm not sure it was totally proven either way, although at least one 335D owner did an experiment that was 99% conclusive it did.

Nice essay..
I'm a very happy person, it bores me to see others always out to piss on someone else's cheer in the name of "banter"(love how misused that word is these days)
I will enjoy myself today, in my diesel, with xdrive, and artificial piped in v8 soundtrack. Thanks.

That last I saw is that someone trawled through the OEMparts database to try and find evidence that it had the parts required, but found no evidence of it.
I really don't think it has active sound, or if it does, they could have given it a better one!

It sounds alright for a diesel, but really wish it was as quiet as it is in 5 series!

And I really don't think it sounds like a V8, sounds just the same as my last 3 330ds all have... like a 6 cylinder diesel!

Yep i just had a look in the parts database, M cars have the active sound unit under: audio, navigation, electronic systems: Amplifier.
There is no such part showing for the 335d!

Maybe because of the higher revs?

No its not the revs. If you compare say Sport mode with gear stick to the left to get the revs up to say 3000rpm then listen to it for a while. Then switch to Sport+ and listen at the SAME revs, it is louder.

Does it have the flap in one of the exhaust pipes that opens like the 3l petrols?

Other than idling, both 330 and 335d sound great on accelerating.

The main bit though as the OP said the 6cylinder 330 really does kick and I know mine compared with previous cars wins hands down for that.

While I am gently breaking it in, I do occasionally test the acceleration side of things, as you never know if you might need some emergency dilithium crystals.

Can't wait for later in year, when both the car and myself are improved.

For a family estate it's fun.

Re exhaust notes, let's face it pretty much all manufacturers are going to try and artificially enhance exhaust sound, what I don't like is being able to select what sound you want.
