When i stop at a red light, and wait for it to turn green, the engine "shuts down" and goes into "ready" mode. It stays there for good 15-20 secs.

But after 15-20 seconds, it starts again without me moving anything. I have even tried putting it in P and still it start after some time.

Is this normal ? shouldn't it be in "ready" mode till i take my foot of the brake or go in Drive ?

if you move steering wheel it re starts; if engine is cold it may not stay off also; there are some other things that trigger it theres a detail post regarding it

Air conditioning will turn it on especially if you are not in Eco pro.

The auto startstop looks at what's going on with the car : what's in use (A/C, etc), the current level of charge in the battery, the outside temp even (batteries are less efficient in the cold, this is why ASS doesn't operate below about 3 C/37F). It then decides whether to stop the engine at all, and if it does, it continually keeps monitoring to see whether it is happy with the levels.

The engine will automatically restart if:
- The Auto Transmission is changed from D to N, R, or M/S
- The Auto Transmission is changed from P to N, D, R, or M/S
- The car starts rolling
- The windows get foggy when the automatic climate control is enabled
- It begins getting warm when the A/C is on
- If begins getting cold when the heater is on
- The Steering Wheel is turned
- The battery is heavily discharged
- If the brake vacuum pressure is low (if you press the brake pedal multiple times)

ALSO, the Auto Start-Stop will not switch off the engine if:
- You just switched out of reverse
- If your Auto Transmission is in R, N, or M/S
- It's too cold outside
- If it's hot and the A/C is running
- If the cabin is not at the desired temperature set on the climate control
- The windows get foggy when the automatic climate control is enabled
- The engine is not warmed up enough
- If you are in Stop and Go traffic
- If Parking Assistant is active
- If the Steering Wheel is turned too far or if it's being moved
- If the battery is low
- If the hood is unlocked/opened
- If you are running your car on high ethanol
