Does anybody know if Sonax wheel cleaner is safe if use on the black stock wheels?

Thanks ahead of time!

Well let me know if it melts the black off of your wheel But in all seriousness I wonder if it will be too hard for the finish.

Just remember to use wheel sealant or wax after. It will strip wax I believe. But I've used sonax on all types of wheels no problem. Including really bad quality replica rims and it worked great without stripping any of the finish.

I use it on my Satin Platinum wheels on my Porsche with no issue. It won't be a problem.

I am sure I'm being a dumb-ass and doing something wrong....

I have black coated ZCP rims and have used Sonax to clean them. After I apply Sonax, use soft brush to scrub the rims - I rinse them with high pressure water gun only to find that upon drying the rims, they are not only dull but also have a whitish / greyish residue on them that makes it look like they are dirty.

Id prefer not to put additional wax on the rim to give it a shiny look...but im just clueless how to get them to their original state...

Any ideas?

I just use soap and water. I find most wheel cleaners to be abrasive, plus it's cheaper. If you're worried about ruining the finish, i'd just use soap and water unless the wheels are so dirty that you need something stronger.

Sonax is PH-neutral so it should work on any wheel. Just don't let it dry onto the wheel.

I only break out the Sonax if the wheel is especially dirty and I don't feel like scrubbing every nook and cranny.

To get the wheels to their original state, you likely just need some mild compound. If you don't have any detailing supplies, Klasse AIO is an oldie but goodie. You only need a little bit and some microfiber towels. You can also use some off the shelf stuff like Scratch-X. Don't use metal polish, the wheels are clear-coated like your car's paint so metal polish won't work.

I like griots heavy duty wheel cleaner. It's more mild than the Sonax and it suds more when scrubbing. A lot of these products shouldn't discolor anything as long as wheels and calipers are cool. The best tool to scrub with is the set of wheel wollies. I'm gonna be using soap and water on my F80 wheels thanks to dustless CCBs.

P21s gel wheel cleaner is my preferred choice. Cuts through even heavy build-up with ease. It has the option to leave it on (in the shade) for 2 hours if you want a deep cleaning, but I've never needed more than 5-10 minutes to clean off anything that isn't embedded.

Beyond that I'd recommend a clay bar.

I've never been thrilled with wheel waxes, maybe I haven't tried the right one.
