Maintenance Cost

Hello everyone!

We are all thrilled to own the car of our dreams and some of us here are in the process of owning one. But the real question is, HOW MUCH DO WE REALLY NEED TO SPEND ON MAINTENANCE?- I mean after the 4yr./50k warranty expires. This may not matter to the so called "loaded owners" but to the "regular joes" like myself it means a lot cuz I'm planning of keeping my 330i.

I need all your input...

Only if a second set of brake jobs are necessary

330i_keeper,

I have made up a spreadsheet to see if the 6 year/100k maintenance extension is worth the additional $985.

I assumed that I averaged 12,500 miles per year. My "Service Indicator" on my 325xi currently (3400 miles on speedometer) says that I need a front brake job @ 32,000 and a rear brake job @ 36,000. I also assumed the brake jobs include replacing the rotors as well as the pads.

Assuming that I need a second set of brakes jobs @ 64,000 and 68,000, the extended maintenance saves $1,200. This is the cost to the second set of brake jobs.

I plan on waiting until near the end of the 4th year of the standard maintenance to see where I actually am with respect to the brakes. The SA at the dealer says that I can wait until this time with no change in price for the extended maintenance.

Your service indicator tells you the miles UNTIL you need the service, not the odometer read at which.

That was a really good input. The $1,200 savings you mentioned for getting the extended warranty applies for rotors and brake pads?

Second Brake Job is around $1200

330i_keeper,

I figure that the second front and rear brake jobs (pads and rotors) will run $1,200 in the sixth year or 2011. I inflated my current estimated at 5% per year or approximately 1.3 times the current cost estimated.

Hope this helps.

Regarding the 32000 and 36000 for my first brake jobs being miles remaining or the speedometer reading, it is going to be close as I have 3500 miles on my 325xi today.

There appears to be some disagreement as to wheither the service indicator is remaining miles (although the manual indicates this) or the speedometer reading when the service is due. My car still indicates that my first oil change is 15,000 miles or Oct 2007 (two years from delivery). I have seen some discussion on this matter in other posts on E90post.
