The chrome makes the car look less sporty. Don't know why they didn't give us an option whether or not we wanted the trim. But it was worth it though, it only cost $50/car.

To answer both questions. Don't know how long it will last for. But I'm pretty sure it will last for a long time, because the guy used 3M vinyl and it's pretty thick. He is a custom vinyl installer and have installed on motorcycles and other cars too! So, this guy knows what he's doing and used the good vinyl for us.
It snowed on Sunday and after scraping off the snow, the vinyl trim still looks perfect, but only time will tell. But for $50, you can't beat it. lol!

You just downgraded your car to 325??
J/K. Looks good dude. I swapped mine out with the actual black trim on 325 on my black sedan too, I love it.
