Water pump failures
I know the N54 has an issue with water pump failures. Does the N55 have the same issue? Coming in to work today I got a warning about coolant temps 1/4 mile from work and 30 seconds later I got put in limp mode saying the car overheated. Oil temp was slightly high around 245* compared to 235-240* it normally runs.
I am 1/2 way to the dealership now so I am trying to figure out if I should head that way after work or to head back home. |

Looks like I have roadside assistance since I am CPO. Just going to have my wife pick me up probably unless the tow truck driver will give me a lift down there so I can get a loaner.

So I pulled out the JB4 in my parking lot at work. I had to clear the codes, so that meant I had to let it get hot again. It proceeded to drive home 13 miles with no issues, ugh. Now I am stuck with a slow car until it acts up again. Hopefully it is soon!

I had the AC cranked up pretty good the morning that it acted up and was in an area with quite a few stoplights at the end of my drive. Not nearly as bad as stop and go though. I am going to crank up the AC and see if I can get it to act up on the way home. I am getting the android app and cord to connect to the JB4 with my phone so I can log and read/clear codes more easily.

Mine was flooring on the highway on my way down to Nashville from Cleveland Ohio. It was very hot, and I floored it to pass someone. Instant half engine and limp mode.
Code was for temp being too high, which people on forums said was a sign a thermostat that goes bad needed replaced. It has not happened since. |

I did nothing. Have not had an issue since.
At the same time, my JB4 has not worked correctly since this happened. The autoclear of codes can not be turned off. Beats me if this was happening before this or not. I recently had a horrible experience with CANbus communication errors that caused my engine to shake and surge violently. Have a post about it here somewhere. Since that happened(then went away on its own), I finally reflashed the JB4 back to the latest firmware(non-ISO) but have been running stock tune. I am hoping that when I move back to map 5 and turn off the autoclear codes, I start seeing normal tuner codes SES again which will let me know the JB4 is working fine again. |

Thanks for the input. I almost forgot I am running E40, so I have been taking it easy on it. That might explain why it is running much cooler then normal. Probably going to toss the JB4 back in tonight and see what happens. I was expecting a total failure and the water pump was just dead, but it is working fine right now.

I was headed to my son's baseball game last night and it overheated on me again. 2 hour freaking wait for BMW roadside to show up. By then the dealership was closed and I couldn't get a loaner. Fun stuff! It failed at 59.5k miles.
