Voice Control/Tech Package?

Is voice control not available on non-tech package cars? I have the voice button on my wheel but nothing happens when I press it. I also cannot find anything related to voice commands in the iDrive settings. Is this expected, or am I missing something?

It's odd they would leave the button there…

I probably wouldn't have used it anyway ... but it bothers me that the button is there and doesn't work. It would have been great if it was programmable to something else, like the Sport+ mode

Same issue here. I'm pissed because I heard that was standard on all Bmw from 2014 on. So is there no way to activate Siri via the car?

FYI the default BMW voice recognition is unbelievably BAD!! It take several attempts speaking in your most studious voice to get a half decent result.

Most of the time, it will confirm phrases not even close to what you've actually said. SMH

I like the voice button on the BMW steering wheel now since it accesses Google voice. Really annoying to see it as an up level option.

Yet another reason why I bought a stripper.

The voice button can be used to access Google Voice and Siri if you hold it for 2 seconds, but only on 2015+ model years.
