Beware Dealers - Craziest quote I have ever heard!

So I've got a number of cosmetic mods planned, here's the list with what my dealer quoted me in hours for labor. From reading the forum it seems that a number of folks have been able to accomplish all of this on their own relatively easily. Just an FYI for those thinking of having it done before delivery. Needless to say I will be handling all of this myself. This is completely obscene, most notably the reflectors with IND DIY seems like 15 minutes max.

Mirror Covers: 0.9
Grilles: 2.5
Pedals: 2.0
Reflectors: 2.3
Turn Signal Bulbs: 0.6

Grand total was $1,100!!!!

Mirror covers come off with nothing but your fingers.
Those are incredibly steep labor quotes.

I know, so how can that be almost an hour? I'd be pissed if this weren't so ridiculous it's funny.

Why would you let your dealer do stuff like that? Even if they give you a reasonable rate, its still expense

I was told they would do it no charge as part of pre-delivery prep. Then apparently the service manager caught wind of it or something and vetoed that plan. Obviously I am not paying them to do any of that, but if they were going to do it for free why not?

Part of sales agreement? You will need those documented on the paper you sign or else is just sweet talk

I didn't care enough one way or the other to make it a sticking point, it's all obviously easy enough to handle on my own. I just want my car, taking delivery in 24 hours!

Just wanted to throw folks a heads up in case they aren't DIY comfortable...

Just curious, what are you changing in terms of your turn signal bulbs?

The stock ones are amber, got a set of stealth bulbs from bimmian that are chrome when off and amber when lit. Still legal but no orange in corner of headlamp assembly. Will post pics once installed.

I can do the mirrors, grilles, reflectors and indicators in under 3 minutes - total.

The pedals need a really strong drill but should then take no more than 1/2 an hour.

This is from personal experience...

That's a total of 0.55 hrs - perhaps they need to spend some of the extra time training their techs on how to work on their cars...

I was shocked to the point of laughing, totally insane. Oh well, I'm sure some stupid bastard will pay them.

I have silver bulbs in mine. 5 mins a side to fit. Really easy as you remove a panel in wheel arch to access

I got the reflectors and mirror caps done in 10 minutes per side (mostly due to reflectors). Debadged the fenders, leaving the deck lid for now. Bulbs Bimmian sent were the wrong ones, you need the PY21W as opposed to the P21W, so the 7507. Getting those overnighted, will post some pics when done. Still waiting on a drill bit from Amazon to do the pedals.

Certainly sounds like an all day job. Jeez. The worst dealer quote I had see is a customer that used my shop. (BMW independent shop). Was on a road trip when I check engine light came on. It was a failed O2 sensor. They took it to a dealer in so cal. They quoted a reasonable price for the o2 sensor but they also said they needed 3k worth of other repairs. Including a power steering flush using fluid that cost $170 per qt. It uses regular atf ($4 per qt) worst part is every one of the items they said it needed had been done at my shop 1 week earlier.

The 9 yrs i had my e90...it never got service by bmw dealers other than the free maintenance and that one time I ask for a wheel balance (cost $100 and that was already expensive) but the SA was trying to sell me the Laser wheel Balance for $300....i was thinking WTF are you also going to sell me a ride to the Moon while you're at it

that was when I realize I will never bring my car to the dealer lol

HEHE too good.

NOT trying to bash on dealers because I have had some really good experience with some.

I had a e46 330i zhp. The alcantara wheel was worn out and it was well past warranty I was in for a recall on the taillight. The SA called me and asked if I would like the wheel replaced for free I said YEAH!!!!!!!

They also fixed my sunroof out of warranty too.

That was BMW San Fransisco BTW.
