Smile Recommend a Tyre Inflator (Compressor)

The joys of run flat tyres... I have to adjust and check the tyre pressure every 2 weeks at least.

The Halfords one I have used for 8 years is now dead.

Read a few reviews on some Michellin one's but a few of the reviews were discouraging saying that it blew out after a month of use and Michellin declined to replace it / that it is not manufactured anymore.

Sooooooooo... which one do you use or recommend?

Thanks

I had a Michelin compressor/inflator and it died - turned out to be the wire had become loose. My father wanted it, so gave him that one which now continues to work as good as gold.

I just bought this one:

So far so good.

I would get the Airman kit. Its the same OEM compressor as included in the BMW kit, but for less than a quarter of the price.

Can also get it with sealant for £5 more; Can always sell the sealant on to make a bit of money back and then its a bargain.

Viair makes the BEST portable air compressors.

I've got a ViAir Model 400P Automatic that I use for back up to my CO2 air tanks, when off-roading in my FJ w/it's 33" tires, but it's probably more than you need for emergency fill-ups in your BMW.

Here's a link to Viair's Portable Compressor site: http://www.viaircorp.com/portables.html. Pick the one you think will fit your needs best and then shop for the best price online.

Can you tell us more.
- Does it take 24 hours to charge?
- How long does a single charge last?
- Have you checked if its accurate?
- What is the battery type? Lithium Ion?

Thanks

There is so little information available on this. I could not even find a Michelin website with this. I wonder who makes it for them?!

Found this one: http://www.viair.co.uk/index.php?rou...&product_id=43 it is the new range and has a digital gauge on top but only reads in psi... I love it but I am so used to doing all of my pressures in BAR.

Cheers

This does not have a built-in battery - it works from the 12v supply.

Accuracy - I checked this against the old version (all good) and against a pressure checker (all good and well within 1 PSI). The unit also shuts-off automatically and if required, as the pressure settles, will decide to pump more air in for accuracy.

You can change the unit of measurement from BAR to PSI to KPA.

I am pleased with it so far.

Thanks. I found out that there are two versions. One is rechargeable and capable of 10, 0-30psi cycles. I think it will be easier for me to use with the car off - no need to idle the engine to use it. No need to pass cables around or through the cabin to get to the other side.

The Viair ones definitely look robust and have outstanding reviews everywhere I look but I cannot seem to find a UK retailer. The Viair.co.uk website is insecure and there is no HTTPS protocol or anything when you put your details in so that is a no go. Shame because these probably are the best from what I read.

Leaning toward the portable solution though as its tempting not to have pass cables around.

Some people are saying too that it defaults to 30psi and they do not know how to set it despite reading the manual. There has to be some kind of way surely.

The Viair might just win though if I can find a secure way of ordering it.
