Electrical Socket Under Dash

Did a search but couldn't find anything... is anyone else missing the socket for a cigarette lighter under glove compartment in the front passenger footwell? It's listed on page 139 of the manual and there appears to be a hole for one but my 228i is missing the actual socket.

The documentation is fubar for this... I'm not sure if it's a geographical thing, but there are only 2 power sockets in the US 2-series. One in the middle console underneath the stereo and the second underneath the rear A/C controls.

Sadly enough, the documentation says not to use any of these sockets to charge *anything*, specifically a phone, as they will overheat.

Yes, the hole is there but there's no socket or wiring harness plugs for it (AFAIK). Check out the "nits" thread.

I'm planning (one day soon) to cruise an auto salvage yard for the socket and hack into the under dash harness. The same socket has been used on everything since the E46, and an "always on" wire is pretty much just hanging there: yellow with a red stripe.
