What does this button do?
I can't find this in the manual so I have to ask.
I have an 08MY E91 (arrived this morning) and under the centre armrest you have the usual USB thing and power socket but at the front of the compartment is a button that has what looks a bit like a picture of a speaker on it. Pressing it appears to do nothing and it's not mentioned in the manual so does anybody have any clue as to what it is and what it does? Thanks |

it makes ur car turn into a chocolate producing machine...
nah if what people are saying is what you are describing then yes it lets air into your cupholder which is in there.... you cant make it blow hot or cold as there is not switch to do that it all depends on your Climate control you have in the front and the one in teh back if you want it cold, have it during the summer have the AC on, have the front knurled thing to blue and have it to blue on teh back as well, colder air should blow in....if you want it warm...turn them both to the red and have your heater on..... it doesnt do the job of actually cooling or heating your drink instead it slows down the time it takes to cool or get hot....i love the feature...its a good way to keep my coke from the fridge semi cold on a hotter day or my coffee cool down slower on a colder day.... |

If it's a little square button with ridges on, it's as described for allowing warm ambient or cooler air to enter the storage compartment under the armrest, if it's the button with the symbol on, it's to release your mobile phone if you have the Bluetooth charger fitting kit.

Just do what I do - if you have no idea what a button does (especially big red ones!) just push it lots of times, eventually something will happen or someone will come to see what is happening!

The button with the speaker symbol is referring to the EJECT box for the phone cradle. US cars do not come with this but Europe gets this standard. Don't have one at the moment in my car so can't comment on what exactly the button does. I think it may be for ejecting the phone cradle. |

The button under the DTC button is used for the upper vents, in the rare case you want hot feet and cold air in your face or cold feet and hot air in your face

Really rare case, my brother took my car on a business trip and he is calling me on the mobile phone, he says: "I have made the temp on AC on both sides on 18 C and I am still hot !! WTF is wrong with your shitty BMW ??" Then I have said to him to put that wheel on blue or in the middle and then it was OK...but it is pretty stupid for someone who doesnt have BMW, it is my first BMW and I didnt get it either...I still dont like it, I have AC and I will make the temp that is OK for me, not cooling when it is snowing outside

he's talking about the button in the armrest console; most likely the cupholder ventilation button as stated previously by other posters

No, it depends on the knurled wheel setting on the rear vents.

the usb is for your ipod. Use the cable that came with the ipod to connect it to the computer. Your music etc. will come up on the iDrive(if you got it). the headphone jack is for connecting a different audio source, AUX source if you will. hope this helps

Exactly right. If you have the phone adapter cradle installed, pushing this button will release the cradle so you can substitute a different one for a different phone.

Yep. That's the one.
So if the sybol is not a speaker, just what is it supposed to be? |
