Tire help needed!
Hi everyone! Sorry for posting here but no one was able to help me in the Tire/ Wheels forum.
I have an e90 LCI with 205/55/16 Continental RFT with 282 rims(hideous, I know). I was looking for new wheels and found some on craigslist(pictures below) $500 for the set, does anyone know the style? They are 17" but I don't think they are RFT. My question is, can I use conventional tires on my 09 328i (LCI) and can I use my TPMS from my current tires? What problems can I run into? A local European shop that specializes in BMW's quoted me to mount them at $98 for all 4 tires. Thanks for your help guys! Here are the pictures of the Wheels, anyone know the style? |

you can definitely use non-rft tires on your 328... I would recommend them in a heartbeat. You should also be able to use your current TPMS on new wheels.
According to http://felgenkatalog.auto-treff.com/ that 5er wheel style is 138, and the offsets will most likely be different compared to your stock setup. Also ensure that if your car is RWD, you get a set from a donor car with RWD (for the staggered setup). AWD donor wheels will result in a square setup, which may not work well if your car is RWD. There used to be an offset calculator on the wheels and tires section of the forum, but can't seem to find it at the moment.

Style 138 off an E60. 17" x 7.5"
You can run your TPMS and you will run into basically no issues with conventional tires. I made the switch about a year ago and never looked back.

The seller told me they are from an 07 so I'm thinking it's either a 3er or 5.
Would I have to do anything to the car (raise it/ lower it) in order to accommodate the 17", currently have 16". Sorry I'm new to this. |

no raising or lowering to accommodate a different size wheel. What you will need though is the right profile/width tire combinations. If you search around, you can find the appropriate tire sizes for 17", 18" and 19" setups. If you're going through the whole process of sizing up, I'd recommend an 18" setup. You'll probably want to after a month of seeing your car in 17's.

Get 18" in non-RFTs. With that combo, you can't go wrong in the looks and performance dept.

Beware....
I wasted a whole Saturday on trying to get a replacement pair of Run Flats through Craigslist here in the Atlanta area. Needless to say I won't be doing it again. First advert I went to was a pre-owned sales place with some service. The guy rolls out the two Conti RFTs. I look them over and one of them has a great big nail sticking through it. "Oh yeah" says the guy. "You can get it repaired". It was clearly to darn close to the tread edge so he must have taken me for an idiot (maybe I was, using CL!). No sale! Next, on to a dingy place stacked high with used tires. This time I couldn't find a problem so bought the pair. However.... On getting home and into proper light, and feeling very carefully inside the tire, lo and behold, another bloody nail. Not so big and hidden in the treads, but poking through none the less. Drove back, got my money back and vowed not to use CL for used tires again! YMMV |

Non-RFT ride better. Just be sure to throw a fix-a-flat can or some other tire repair kit in for worse case scenarios.

Make the switch
The best thing I did was get rid of my RFT, they suck.

You can definitely use 2013 3 series wheels, I have a pair on my car.
As for those wheels they are from a E60 5 series |

I hope you get your wheel/tire situation sorted. It can be time-consuming finding the right setup, especially a used one. Good luck!
