The People's 50 Million
So, there's £50 Million of lottery funding up for grabs to one of four projects.
Rather than some quango or otherwise ridiculous and self serving body allowing the money to be spent the way that they want, let your fingers do the typing and get your vote in. http://www.thepeoples50million.org.uk/ You have to register to vote, but there you go. Personally, I'm strongly in favour of the Sherwood Forest project, but then you could say I would be as it's on my doorstep. I honestly feel that it's worthwhile. I certainly don't feel that the Eden project should get it - I'm sure they'll be advertising to their visitors so there is a strong chance that they will. After all, it's our money, we have the opportunity to decide how it's spent - lets use it. (I'm quite glad I managed to avoid any "steal from the rich to give to the poor" comments...)

I am 50/50 between Sherwood and Connect2 so I agree with you both

Connect2 for me also - one of the projects within that scheme proposes to build a bridge near to me, which in turn will make it much easier for me to stagger home from the pub, so it gets my vote every time

Personally, while I think that Connect2 is a worthwhile, I feel it should be funded by some of the tax you pay on your fuel, not by your lottery money.
Projects like Connect2 should be funded by alternate sources, to me there's no escaping that. I remember when they opened the Sherwood Forest vistor's centre a good few years ago and it was done by the hard work of the Sherwood Forest Rangers and local community. When it was first suggested the idea was poo-pooed (sp?) and was said to not be worthy as "no-one would come to visit". A bit of funding to back up the hard work will go a lot further than a few 3m cycle lanes... They've even decided that the national forest will be sited in Leicestershire. I have to say that I'm always jealous of places like the New Forest - significantly more impressive in age and acres than Sherwood, and (will a few beers inside me) yearn for Sherwood to be "back on the map". Besides, if you're coming home from the pub, you should be in a ditch (or some student's busom) and not on some poxy bridge. Vote Sherwood!
