Cylinder misfire after changing valve cover gasket

Very rough idile and multiple cylinder misfires. Is this something to do with valvetronic motor alignment?

I have INPA and DIS but don't know what to do.

Most likely the. Valvetronic motor had the same issue when I did mine. Either that or you forgot to plug something in

Don't have exact code info right now but it was saying too low for cylinder fire.

Did you do the initialization procedure for the v motor.

Did you do the initialization procedure for the v motor.
Do you get any error's with Inpa?
Run DIS57 to get an error code printout (it should tell you the problems in English)
you shouldn't need the motor on just the have the power on so the ECU's are powered up.

I'd suspect you didn't clip one of the coils in tight. They gotta *click*!!

That is strange. Has to be something mixed up or knocked out of place during the vcg job, no? Evetything was OK before you swapped things?

I did this recently and trying to think of what it could be...

Did you double check you got the coil plugs on the right cylinders?

Electrical wires on the right injector poles?

Is the pcv hose hooked up right? Pcv valve put back in properly?

Fuel rail all properly tightened down?

Gotta be something simple that just isnt standing out.

Hope you can figure it out!

Sub'in to see what you find out as I'm getting ready to do a valve cover job myself here soon and don't want to end up in the same boat.

Word: Each spark plug sleeve has a metal o-ring in the base. When removing the sleeves (whether you take them out first or remove the VC with them intact), make sure you can account for these. Two of my o-rings popped off and I had no idea. Thankfully I happened to see them sitting down in the valve area. The DIY I used didn't mention this.

Also, inspect your VC for hairline cracks - they are extremely common! Found one on mine and wound up replacing the cover itself ($340), which meant returning the gasket and bolt set I'd purchased (the new VC came with the gasket and bolts, as well as a new PVC).

$340 is pretty high for a hairline crack. You couldn't seal the hairline crack with some JB weld?

so ghetto!

Gasket, bolt set and new PVC will run you $200 (discounted at getbmwparts). Another $140 for peace of mind was a slam-dunk.

That's only two cylinders. Have you had the engine cover off and checked all the connections?

i just doubled checked everything and it looks fine. this is a pain in the a$$.

another note: clock keeps resetting. don't think bad battery makes a difference ( i have read other posts with other issue) but looks like it is time to change that as well.

got it on a charger now to see if it goes to a full charge and see if clock resets if i disconnect.

You gotta be kidding. Where did you buy them? Were the gaps way off?

got bosch ones from amazon

i didn't check gaps ( someone told me it wasn't needed because spark plugs come pre-gapped) but i pretty sure the one in cylinder 4 didn't even fire once since this one had the oil in it and reason i changed vcg. oil was still in there when i took it out.

what is the gap anyway? 2008 328i

Sorry, not sure - was just wondering if you compared the gap on the failed new ones to the gap on your old ones.
