Recaro Teasing

Two days ago I got my aw M235i and all I have to say is... I love this car!

Here is a teaser pic of the first mod:

These are Recaro Sportster CS bought at Manhart Performance.
Black leather with airbags and of course they are heated seats.

In 7 days the car will be at Manhart for the next round of mods.
It gets staggered 19" Manhart wheels with 225/255 Michelin PSS tires, KW V3 and the BMW M Performance exhaust with 90mm Manhart tips and black oem grills.

Of course I`ll take some pics then!

I just sold my Sportster CS I had in my WRX last month. One of the best seats I ever had in a sports car. Period.

Ahh I want to do this so badly for my upcoming M235i but recaro USA does not sell with airbags!! I want the airbags!

How much do you think it would cost for those seats + shipping to the US?

Do they use original BMW leathers? Would be nice to fit these in a Terra interior.

I`m sure they`ll bring something like the performance seats.
but I didn`t like them since they do not flow with the rest of the interior.

Why that?

I would just write an email to manhart and ask them for a price incl. shipping to the states. just say that Philipp told you and I`m sure they will pass you a great price!

I don`t have a clue! But they felt way lighter during the installation.
But I`m sure the plain recaro poles are lighter than the sportsters because they don`t have all these functions.

I don`t think so. But the black colors are matching well. could be stock.
But you could get them in the cheapest option with black cloth and have them done by a saddler with oem terra leather.

do you have aftermarket seats in your a45?
I had the optional seats in the car and they were still way different.

It was a hard choice between a45 and the 235i for me!
both are great cars!

The Reacaro with airbags are not sold in the US because I believe the US regulations are different than Europe. I believe they are much more $$$$ to get certified. If I remember correctly, every different part number needs to be crash tested.

My reasoning is that I believe Recaro doesn't want to pay for crash testing the airbag models because only a small # of users that purchase recaros would get airbags. For the amount that crash testing costs, I doubt they would recover that in sales. If you think about it, it makes sense. If you go to the track (which is the majority of people that buy aftermarket recaro), then you get the seats because they are lightweight and airbag isn't a concern.

That is why the Recaro models with airbags are sold via OEM (i.e MINI, mercedes, etc), because the manufacturer pays for the crash testing.

For example, BMW released the prior BMW performance seats which are just recaro sportster cs with airbag + heating.

Since recaro paid for their own testing of the non-bmw seats, the recaro sportster without airbag are completely road legal since they meet DOT requirements.

Since BMW did not pay for the BMW performance seats with airbag to be crash tested, then they are technically illegal seats.

I say technically, because to me it makes no sense how the same seat without the airbag is legal, while the seat with the airbag is not. Does that mean that having an airbag is dangerous? :P. If you see on the recaro website, they even talk about how the seat is much safer with the airbag and overpasses what the european regulations require.

I think the airbag ordeal is because they (the US DOT) don't want people buying aftermarket airbags from china that explode in your face.. which is a good concern. But I don't think recaro would do that!

okay, over here we have the optional amg performance seats, but they are way different than the recaros.

You shouldn`t be dissappointed!!
The a45 feels stronger but that`s all what the merc an do better imo.

I have those seats in your photo, they are standard equipment for HK.

i know the a45 is slightly stronger on horsepower, but i am hoping the m235 will be more rewarding to drive, otherwise it would be a bad move for me (cause the a45's interior including the seats look a lot better IMO).

you will not be disappointed in case you prefer a more purist drivers car.
