Taking a test drive in a Mercedes while owning a Bimmer is like having an affair...

Taking a test drive in a Mercedes when owning a Bimmer, while fantasizing about Audi is like having an affair to remember. Now that's a threesome worth talking about. Recently test drove an E350 and made the 528i look and feel old.

SL Class is sick I definitely wouldn't mind having one. Mercedes just has a different idea of what an automobile should be and that doesn't mean they aren't as good if not better than BMW.

One of the few decent looking cars in the Merc lineup. The price gap between the SL63 and SL65 is ridiculous though.

My only Mercedes experience was my g/f's little SLK 230. Hard top convertible.
Over time I grew to hate that car with a passion lol. It seemed like everything that could fail on a car failed on that thing. The hard top would stick all the time and not go down or not go up. Door locks would fail, interior dash pieces would get brittle from the sun and start crumbling, washer fluid squirter didn't work, electrical gremlins killed the trunk mounted CD player and the horn. The supercharger never worked either. It had an electro magnetic engagement much like your A/C compressor and but it would never work. Passenger's window would get stuck half way down all the time. She had that car in and out of the dealership for months and then I started working on it when I met her and hated it even more lol. Super unfriendly to work on. When I'd call around and look for info on things like how to check the transmission oil the response I got was "Mercedes does not intend its end users to work on the cars so special Mercedes tools are needed and used by their shop mechanics". Ugg. Not the car for me. So while I'm sure there are some very nice higher end Mercedes cars I'll never touch em When I was looking for my 335xi a dealer tried talking me into a comparable Mercedes and I wouldn't even look at it or test drive it lol.

Was that all one sentence?
That car is so ugly, though. Edit: my bad. At least you used one period.

Well if we are talking the r230 chassis sl 63 is the naturally aspirated 6.2 liter v8 that produces 525 hp and 465 tq where and the sl 65 is a twin turbo 6 liter v12 that produces 700 and change hp and 800 to 900 torque(factory limited. The price gap is crazy there is like a 40k price gap between the models. The current sl 63 I believe is a twin turbo 5.5 v8 and I don't know whether they make a sl 65 for the current chassis.

There is a SL 65 for the current R231 gen. It uses an updated version of the now 11 year old M275 V12, 630-ish horses, mated to the 7 speed automatic instead of the ancient (but bulletproof) 5G tronic.

I expect the SL to always deliver seeing as how BMW and audi don't have an answer for it.
