Rain Sensor Question

I had my windshield replaced a couple months ago and I recently started hearing a rattle coming from the rain sensor cover. So I popped it off and found this dangling from that area. Pretty sure this is the culprit. However, I'm not sure what it's for or where it's supposed to go but the side in the picture is sticky, so much that I think it might adhere to the windshield somehow.

Does anyone know what this is?

Thanks....

Do your rain sensing wipers work perfectly?
Did you have the windshield replaced with an OEM or after market one?

Do you have a scanner to see if any codes are live?

As for the part your holding.... I don't know what that is, hence why I am asking the questions above.

This is why I would have nobody but a BMW body shop replace my windshield.

I don't think that many body shops specialize only in BMWs but, even if the do, they'll normally source out the glass work because of the specialized knowledge and skill required to do it.

FWIW, I had my windshield replaced by a local auto glass shop, which has done other windshield replacements on other vehicles for me, and I had no problems whatsoever.

safelite replaced mine and did fantastic job, no mark anywhere. both my reg and inspections stickers look like they were never removed. he even cleaned all the windows inside and out and vacuumed the interior and gave me brand new rain x wipers.
